USF MBB Takes on Georgetown

The USF Bulls, now 13-9 (6-3), and fresh off of a strong win at home over Providence, face a stiff road test as they travel to face #14 Georgetown.  The Hoyas, 17-4 (7-3) on the season, are coming off of a strong defensive win over UCONN.

The Bulls, sitting in a 3rd place tie in the conference are hoping their recent streak of strong defense and offense continues as they face one of the toughest road venues in the conference.  The Bulls lost to Georgetown last year, but Augustus Gilchrist did have a strong game with 22-points.  The Bulls are hoping they can duplicate the magic from the 2009 season when they upset the Hoyas on their own home court (game is scheduled for an 11AM start).

After going through the entire 2012 roster, it is time to take a look at the season in general. USF is coming off of a very disappointing 2011 campaign and is looking to rebound and start fast with the Big Ten/Big East match-up to start the season. Here is our 2012 USF baseball prospectus.

Phil McGeoghan Headed to the NFL

From Greg Auman and Josh Newberg (first to report the news) - News came out tonight that wide receiver coach Phil McGeoghan, recently praised as one of the best recruiters for USF, is taking an assistant receiver coach position with the Miami Dolphins.

Closing Thoughts on 2012 Recruiting Class

With the 2012 recruiting class finalized, it's time to stop and getting a bigger view of this class and what it means for the upcoming season and for the years ahead.

USF signed 20 players, including 6 players from the junior college level. The class itself was fairly small considering the small number of players that left for the NFL and graduated, so Holtz didn't have a lot of scholarships to offer and didn't need to.

Top 10 USF Softball Players: Number 1

Was there ever a a doubt who number one was?
Sara Nevins - 6-0 - Sophomore - LHP

We finally reach number one on the countdown and of course, it has to be ace pitcher Sara Nevins. Nevins burst onto the scene last year in her freshman year dominating everyone she faced. She led the Bulls pitching staff with a record of 15-8 while maintaining an ERA of just 1.71 (get out of here).

She worked 155.1 innings, pitching 12 complete games and even saved 8 games for Eriksen. She allowed 115 hits (.192 batting average against her) while walking just 23 and striking out 193 batters (unreal numbers by the lefty). Nevins is the real deal and if she is even close to her numbers from 2011, the Bulls pitching staff will be unstoppable in 2012. So there you have it USF fans, the top player for the 2012 team, Miss Nevins. Do you agree with the pick or think we missed someone along the way? Let us know!

USF 2012 Baseball: Chad Taylor

Chad Taylor - 6-0 180-pounds - Junior - RH - Infield

Taylor returns for his junior season and adds a veteran glove and bat to Prado's lineup. Taylor hit .258 last year, driving in 14 runs, slugging .311 and had an OBP of .301, numbers he will look to improve on (was also 5 for 10 in steals, showing his speed).

2011 was a down season for Taylor after a strong 2010 campaign where he hit .275 with 4 home runs and drove in 13 RBIs, showing there is power in his bat. He had a .373 slugging percentage and a .331 OBP as well.

Taylor has the power to be a key member of the lineup for Prado. He also plays well in the infield and will be a solid member for Prado on the defense wherever he wants to put him.

USF WBB Falls to WVU

The USF ladies battled hard against a tough WVU squad, but came up short at the buzzer, dropping the game 52 to 55. USF forced 20 turnovers during the game, but shot just 30% from the field as they fall to 12-11 on the season (4-5) on the season.

Jasmine Wynne had her 19th straight game in double digits in scoring. She finished the game with 16 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals. Tiffany Conner no point and added 3 rebounds. Caitlin Rowe had 5 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 blocks. Inga Orekhova had 10 points (was just 2 of 8 from 3-point range on the night). Shalethia Stringfield added 3 points as well as she got another start for Coach Fernandez.

Sasha Bernard had 9 points and 2 assists of the bench, giving the Bulls a nice spark off the bench. Andrell Smith had 6 points as well. The Bulls will now hit the road as they take on Syracuse on Saturday afternoon at 1PM.

Signing Day Wrap-up

The LOIs are finally in and the 2012 recruiting class is here. Each player brings a unique skill set to the Bulls football team. Some players will have a chance early in their careers to make an impact while others will need more time in the weight room or will have to wait behind the older players before they can make the field. Here are the recruits along with a profile about them as well.

USF WBB Takes on WVU

The USF ladies, 12-10 (4-4), take on the Mountaineers of WVU as they come to the Rec Center. WVU enters the night with a 15-6 (5-3) record, but they are just 2-4 on the road this season.

WVU is averaging 67.1 points per game, but only allow with 49 points per game, getting after opponents on defense. They only allow 24% from 3-point range, so Orekhova and the USF offensive game from deep range will have a battle on their hands in this game.

National Signing Day is Here

It's National Signing Day for USF football. The class of 2012 will be sending in their LOIs (letter of intent for those who are out of the loop) to Coach Holtz and joining the Bulls Nation.

For those who want to get close to the action, head on down to Stump's (located in the Channelside area) for the USF signing party from 5:30PM to 7PM. Coach Holtz, members of the coaching staff, and spirit squads (cheerleaders and Sun Dolls) will be there to answer questions, sign autographs, and enjoy the festive atmosphere. Jim Louk, the voice of USF, will be on the Skip Holtz radio show from 6-7PM on 1010AM as well that night.

The Bull Rush will be covering the recruiting day excitement. Make sure to follow our twitter feed (@thebullrush) for all the updates during the day of the incoming recruits, updates, and any breaking news that may roll through during the day.

For some of the best threads during the day, make sure to check out Bulls 247, Voodoo 5, and USF for live threads during the day.

At the end of the day, when the fax machine finally goes quiet, we will have a full round-up of all the incoming recruits that will be on the field this season. It should be a fun day.
