Bulls Have Two New Injuries

Defensive back JaQuez Jenkins has a new hamstring injury. (Picture: www.gousfbulls.com)
As reported by Greg Auman in his story last night mentioned two injuries that should be noted for the Bulls as they prepare for FAMU this week and down the road.

Slot receiver Joel Miller missed the Ball State game due to a concussion, this is the first time we have heard about this injury (not specified when it occurred). Lindsey Lamar got the start along with Victor Marc getting a lot of looks at wide receiver as well. Miller is a veteran player so hopefully he can rest and recover quickly. Bulls are deep at receiver, so there is no need to push a player back and especially with that type of injury.

The other injury is a little bit more troublesome for the secondary. Safety turned cornerback JaQuez Jenkins sat the Ball State game due to a hamstring issue. Since the Big East teams don't have to report their injuries, there is no telling how bad or minor the injury is, most likely a strain for Jenkins.

The Bulls are thin at corner to start with so any injury like this should be noted. Hopefully he is rested, won't be pushed through practice, and will be available for the game on Saturday against FAMU.

If there is anything new on these injuries we will bring you latest when they do become available.

  1. I will be honest with you I am not worried about the corners, I know it was against Ball State but I liked what I saw from Boyd, Tabuteau & Baker saturday night

  2. It was good to see Boyd make the big special teams play, Tabuteau and Baker as well played well, but Jenkins is a key player especially on nickel situations and has more experience than the walk-on, so he needs to be healthy.

  3. I believe he will be by Pitt he has two more weeks to rest... now can he get the mental rep? that's all up to him

  4. Also we saw Cliett in that nickel situation, not too shabby either

  5. Right , he can sit vs. FAMU and UTEP, no big deal, but we will need him for Pitt. He got burned vs. ND so I think he needs to get on the field more and get playing and see more reps.

  6. yeah that burn was ugly but I think he will practice some but will rest the game days he will be back and ready I am more concerned about the D-line not pressuring enough more than the D-Backs

  7. Good observation. They are doing decently against the run so far, although Ball State is not a big threat and Cierre Wood from ND killed us before BK had a brain fart, but so far, not seeing much from Giddins. Forte had a sack, but other than that, Wenning for Ball State had a lot of time.

  8. Couple things I noticed at the game...

Lack of QB pressure - I know BSU runs an up-tempo offense and you need quality linemen to do that, but their QB had way too much time. I didn't see a lot of blitzes, so it may have been by design, but the line is going to have to be more physical for us to succeed in conference play.

Red Zone offense - not very effective. Having the early, and large, lead reduced the need to be as aggressive, but we really seemed to move the ball well between the 20s and stalled.

Turnovers - we ended up even on the turnovers, forcing two fumbles but throwing 2 INTs. BJ's INT wasn't his fault as the receiver stopped his route too early. It's great to be 2-0 and ranked right now, but the thing I'm really happy with is BJ's efficiency and game management.

2nd string - yeeeesh - these guys need some more practice!

  9. Glad you mentioned the Daniels interception. It seems Griffin made the mistake, stopped and ran a different route than what Daniels had called. Holtz is really happy with the maturation of Daniels so far, redzone needs work, but the up-tempo is a great way to get it going so far.

We will have to bring up a post later about QB pressure.

  10. Well, I think most of our pass rush is likely to come from Claude Davis: 3 sacks, two force fumbles, and 1 fumble in two games. We've gotten penetration but we haven't gotten to the qb fast enough at times. I know we have blitz packages but why show them now? Because the fans want to see it? We've done that in the past and teams had way too much time to make adjustments, which may explain why we fizzled under the previous coach.
We'll be fine. Our D-line practically played in ball state's backfield. They couldn't pass the ball at all and the qp was under pressure most of the game. It makes me wonder what game some were looking at. 79 total yards in the first half. We had three sacks and 8 tackle for losses... I'm not worried about our defense so much. I just think we need to use the next few games and get our ground game established with Scott... it will keep the defense fresh and add a new dynamic to our offense. D will get healthy and I have full faith the D-line will be fine.
