Darrell Williams to See Playing Time?

Freshman Darrell Williams could get his chance to play starting on Saturday. (Picture: www.usfnation.com)

As Adam Adkins reported from the Skip Holtz press conference, freshman offensive lineman Darrell Williams, 6-5 266-pounds, will get his chance to play this Saturday against FAMU.

The 3-star lineman enrolled at USF and weighed around 245-pounds, looking more like a tight end than anything. But he impressed the coaches during the Fall camp, working extensively with the second team offense, working at left tackle.

While we were all concerned about a 245-pound offensive lineman working on the quarterback's blindside, it seems he has been fitting the weight room (eating well) and has added plenty of weight to work at that position, at least as in a reserve.

Holtz stated he wanted to redshirt him, but explained that Williams could help contribute for this season and wanted to get him on the field.

While Williams won't start, he can help play a key role as a reserve, getting valuable playing time an helping to protect Daniels and open the running game.

That will make 5 true freshman that have played this season, joining Davis, Gonzalez, Turner, and Watson.
