Here are some of the key matchups that we will be watching during the game. While every player plays a key role, these individual matchups are going to be pivotal and fun to watch. See if you agree or have other matchups you will be watching during the game.
Sterling Griffin vs. defensive back Justin Pinkston
Griffin looked sharp in his return to action vs. Notre Dame, doing a solid job of catching passes in the bubble screens and turning up-field for positive yardage (was leading receiver in the game). Against Pinkston and the Ball State, will he continue to get the ball in space or will they try to hit him more down-field to open up the offense?
USF got some pressure against ND and Giddins will once again lead the charge to get Wenning down. Manick is the left tackle and will be in charge of protecting his blind side. Giddins is a pure speed rusher and will look to get to the quarterback and cause the big turnovers.
B.J. Daniels vs. MLB Travis Freeman
Daniels showed off more of a controlled running game last week, not scrambling around and making his progressions. There is no question he will scramble in this game and if the Bulls call for a few designed draw plays or sneaks up the middle, Freeman will be waiting to greet Daniels. Hine and the O-line will have to make their blocks and execute the offense.
Darrell Scott vs. defensive tackle Nathan Ollie
USF needs the running game to get it going in high gear and will be facing an undersized Ball State defensive line. Scott, the big running back that finally got on the field and worked out his jitters, should have a big day and the Bulls really want to get him going as they continue to progress as an offense. Scott should be able to find his way through the holes in the line if the O-line hits their assignments.
WR Briggs Orbson (Ball State) vs. USF Secondary
Orbson is one of the most reliable receivers the Cardinals have and will look to him all night. Whether its Washington or Webster lining up on him, they will have to keep pace with him all night. He is also a threat in the return game, so he is a big time weapon the Bulls have to keep track of and shut down.
Offensive tackle Dan Manick vs. Ryne Giddins
