Scouting FAMU: Offense

After watching A&M's game against Hampton last week, I can tell you that there really isn't too much to speak of offensively.

Quarterback

Like I said, not much to talk about here, but the Rattlers run a predominantly pro-style quarterback scheme led by Sophomore QB Austin Trainor. Over two games, Trainor has completed 53.6 percent of his passes for 537 yards and two touchdowns. Trainor isn't much of a runner, though, so keeping him in the pocket will likely be pretty easy, whether the Bulls show blitz or not.

Running Backs

FAMU's leading rusher is Lavante Page, who has a total of 39 yards on 20 rushes, averaging a meek 1.95 yards per carry. He does, however, have two touchdowns, which is two more than the other rusher on the team, Al-Terek McBurse, who transferred to A&M from Purdue. When I was watching the FAMU game, I noticed that McBurse was a much stronger runner than Page. But USF held Notre Dame's Cierre Wood to minimal damage, so McBurse should prove to be not much of a threat.

Receivers

WR Kevin Elliott leads the Rattlers with 9 catches for 174 yards and a TD, averaging 19.3 yards per catch. On the other end, FAMU lines up Brian Tyms, who has 9 catches for 130 yards for an average of just over 14 yards per catch.

USF will be starting their B-team on Saturday, but even a group of backups should be able to handle FAMU with ease. The Bulls will be focusing most of their energy on getting out of the weekend with no significant injuries. 3-0 for the fifth time in six years will look pretty nice for a Bulls team that still has one more relatively easy game before conference play begins.
