USF Destroys FAMU 70 to 17

The Bulls had a lot to celebrate tonight as they set huge school records as the routed FAMU (Picture: yahoo.com)
What a game for the Bulls tonight. We all expected a win for USF, but nothing like this. USF set the record for yardage, passing yardage, and even more as they put the beat down on FAMU and put up numbers everyone will remember for a long time around here.

B.J. Daniels was even better this game than last week, setting a new career high. He was 20 of 29 in passing for 377 yards (previous high was 359 last week) and threw 4 touchdowns (no interceptions). Daniels moved the offense so well, getting the right throws, making great reads and executing the offense to the best we have seen it (playing FAMU helped out of course). He also had 7 carries for 20 yards, controlling the ball and not getting hurt (made a huge play in the game, throwing a defender off of him and making a great throw down the field). Bobby Eveld was not sharp to start when he came on the field, being replaced by Daniels after his first series, but made a few throws on the night. He went 10 for 14 for 95 yards, but 2 more interceptions will have the coaches angry at him for that. He has 2 carries for 18 yards.

Darrell Scott had a huge night, getting 12 carries for 146 yards, including a huge 52-yard touchdown, getting 3 touchdowns on the night (more on him later). Murray had 6 carries for 47 yards (1 fumble). Marcus Shaw had 8 carries for 19 yards and a touchdown (finally got some positive yards). J.J. Peterson, yes, Peterson, got 6 carries for 15 yards. Bradley Battles got into the game (off of suspension) getting 3 carries for 5 yards late in the game. Lindsey Lamar had 2 carries for no gain. Ryan Eppes had 1 carry for negative two yards, yes, Eppes, the reserve quarterback that has never played, got into the game.

Sterling Griffin had 8 receptions for 97 yards and a touchdown. Scott had 1 catch for 84 yards on a huge screen pass for a big touchdown on the night. AJ Love had 2 receptions for 53 yards and a touchdown, first touchdown since nearly two years ago. Andre Davis had 3 receptions for 39 yards and a touchdown (first receiving TD of his career, first of many). He also blocked a punt for a touchdown return, showing his ability on the field. Deonte Welch had 3 receptions for 39 yards. Murray had 1 for 36 yards. Hopkins had 4 for 34, Victor Marc 2 for 28, Shaw 1 for 22 yards, Ruben Gonzalez 1 for 14 (first career catch), Shields 1 for 12, Bravo-Brown 1 for 9, Mike McFarland 1 for 8 (first catch as a Bull), and Miller 1 for 2. Everyone got involved during this game (Landi didn't get a reception though).

Special teams was quiet. JBK had 1 punt on the night, Bonani had 10 extra point attempts on the night. Hopkins had 1 kick return for 43 yards, Lamar had 3 for 70 yards, and Mitchell had 6 punt returns for 38 yards.

The defense was everywhere on the night as the entire roster seemed to get on the field. Elkino Watson led the night with 7 tackles, including 2 tackles for a loss. Jon Lejiste had an interception.

There is not much to be made about, but USF had a lot of penalties on them tonight. USF had 9 for 72 yards, which is not going to make Holtz happy at all.

We will bring you more insights on the offensive explosion, the defense stepping up, other young players making the marks and so much more. We will start getting ready for UTEP on Monday!
