USF Offers 2012 Shooting Guard

With all of the football talk, let's change it up and talk a little basketball recruiting.

While Stan Heath prepares for another long season (trust me, it is going to be an epically long season) he is also working on recruiting for the class of 2012. With new facilities and a new home floor in 2012, it gives Heath an edge and one recruit has already paid a visit and could be close to making a decision.

Shooting guard Melvin Johnson (6-3 175-pounds) out of St. Benedict's High School and the AAU NY Gauchos, paid USF a visit recently (according to Rivals.com) and came away impressed by what he saw and put USF high on his list.

Johnson is a solid shooter, but has some work to do on his handling ability but has a high ceiling.

Johnson would fill a big time need for USF at the shooting guard spot with Hugh Robertson graduating after next season, but competition is going to be hard with several other programs including the College of Charleston, Miami, and even Virginia Tech showing interest in his talent (Greenberg at it again).

We will have to see if USF can land Johnson or if the other teams talking to him make a move and jump ahead on his leader board.
