USF Volleyball Takes on FAU

The USF volleyball team (1-5) coming off of its first win of 2011 last week against Bethune-Cookman University will travel to Orlando to participate in the UCF Invitational.

USF will square off against FAU in the opening round (Saturday at 1PM). FAU is not off to a great start this season either, posting an 0-6 record so far. They played 2 matches on Friday, dropping both matches after battling hard. They will be looking for their first victory and the Bulls don't want to be that victim.

FAU is led by junior outside hitter Thacilli Pereira (6-0), junior outside hitter Georgia Robinson (6-3), sophomore outside hitter Darija Satarie (6-1), sophomore middle-blocker Sara Stoll (6-2), freshman right side Chandler Hatton (6-2), and freshman setter Lauren Jones (5-11).

FAU has a very tall and athletic group on the court which mixes in several junior players with experience and a few freshman as well. Despite their record, this will be a very tough match for USF as the Bulls continue figure out their gameplan for the season.

J'beria Davis, Valeria El Houssine, Janice Rivera, and Andrea Rodriguez Gomez will all have to lead the charge into this match. The team played well against BCU, sweeping the match (3 sets) so the burden of getting the first win of the year is off their back. Claire Lessinger has done a solid job mixing in the 6 newcomers and has found a solid balance on the court. Hopefully the game turns out well and the Bulls will notch their second win here.

We will have post game wrap ups on Sunday or even late Saturday. We encourage USF fans in the Orlando area to get to the match and support the Bulls. We will be at the football game!
