With word that coming yesterday that TCU has been invited to join the Big 12, the Big East Conference is once again facing uncertainty (been uncertain all season).
According to Pete Thamel of the New York Times, the presidents of the remaining Big East schools will hold a conference call to discuss the possibility of expansion and whether or not invitations could be sent out. With Pitt, Syracuse, and now TCU packing up, it would leave the conference with just 6 football teams, so the need to add more teams is a must if the conference wants to survive as a football conference.
Names such as East Carolina, Central Florida, and Temple have been mentioned (throw in Air Force and Navy too).
It would seem the Big East is simply delaying their ultimate football collapse. If nothing comes out of this meeting, it could possibly mean that after this season, if everyone leaves, Big East football could be gone. We will have to see if anything comes from the call.
