Daniels Spreading the Ball Around

The USF passing game continues to improve this season. B.J. Daniels, despite not executing well last weekend, has been throwing the ball well (as compared to last season), spreading it to multiple receivers. If the offense wants to continue to improve and produce this season, the receivers will have to continue to step up.

Sterling Griffin has emerged as the primary receiver for Daniels and the offense. He leads the team with 27 receptions for 357 yards (13.2 yards per catch) and has one touchdown. Despite the lack of touchdowns, he picks up large chunks of yardage and always seems to get up field quickly, helping move the chains. He is moved around the field well and is showing no rust after sitting out last season.

Victor Marc (mentioned in the previous story) has emerged as a solid receiver. Lindsey Lamar has solidified the slot receiver position with 9 receptions for 124 yards and a touchdown. TE/WR Evan Landi has 12 receptions for 87 yards and a touchdown as well (still looking for more production out of him).

Daniels is finding all his targets this season and has a few new ones to throw to as well. Love, Gonzalez, Davis, Miller, and Shields all are getting into the mix. Daniels is comfortable in the pocket and with reliable targets on the field, he continues to fire away.

Yet, despite the solid numbers so far, the offense continues to struggle to finish off drives and get into the endzone. Daniels will have to make faster decisions and the receivers will have to execute the plays better, finishing their routes and getting the touchdowns instead of settling for field goals.
