Leavitt a Candidate for FAU Job?

From Tampa Tribune - At the end of the 2011 season, the FAU Owls will see legendary head coach Howard Schnellenberger retire after years of success. This means they will have to search for a new head coach, but who could be on their short list?

Athletic director Craig Angelos has stated he is casting out a wide net in his coaching search and according to the AP, that net extends all the way to San Francisco and to former USF head coach Jim Leavitt.

Leavitt went 95-57 in his 13 seasons as the head coach at USF before being fired and settling later. Leavitt is currently the linebackers coach for the San Francisco 49er's.

Other names on the list of candidates is former Miami coach Randy Shannon and former Texas Tech coach Mike Leach.

Hearing Leavitt's name is not that surprising. Leavitt did a great job building the football program up from nothing and would probably be a solid fit at FAU, but the list of names is big, so there is no telling how high Leavitt's name is on that list.
