The Bulls have been on a hot streak adding recruits to the class of 2012, 3 in just the last few days (Mathews-York, Martin, and now Mims) but they have all been out of the JUCO level, junior college players that only have two years of eligibility to play for the Bulls. What are the pros and cons of adding these types of players to the roster?
Junior college players are young players that have been playing at a lower level than Division 1, but have the experience, both mentality and physically ahead of a recruit out of high school. USF has had plenty of great junior college players to come through and move on to the NFL, names like Jason Pierre-Paul come to mind as the Bulls continue to have success in the JUCO level. The Bulls have added 3 JUCO players into this recruiting class so far, although Bulls247 has said as many as 6 could eventually make their way to USF (offers are out there). Having those types of players gives the coaching staff experienced players at big time positions, such as on the line where USF has depth, but lacks experience.
There is a problem with JUCO players, as they could leave after one season and only have two years to help contribute to the team, but for what USF needs at the moment, it 's a smart move.
The Bulls are looking for a few experienced players that can fill in, lead by example, and contribute at a high level on the field for the team. Gaining these players will only help the Bulls as they try to get back to work for the 2012 season.
