USF WBB Takes on Rutgers

The USF ladies, 11-8 (3-2), and fresh off their thrilling overtime win over DePaul are at home once again as they host 7/8 Rutgers, 15-3 (4-1). The Knights are coming off of a loss to St. John's on the road and will be looking to get back to their dominating way.

Rutgers is scoring 65.5 points per game this season while allowing just 53 points per game, getting after people on defense. They hold opponents to 32% shooting from the floor and make offense hard for anyone. The Knights are just 3-2, however, away from home and the Bull faithful should be in full force for this big game (game starts at 7PM).

Rutgers is led by senior guard/forward April Skyes (6-0). She is averaging 14.2 points per game and 5.7 rebounds per game. Junior forward/center Monique Oliver (6-2) is averaging 12.2 points per game and 7.9 rebounds per game, posing a real match-up issue inside for Rowe.

Senior guard Khadiljah Rushdan (5-9) is averaging 12.3 points per game (shooting 49% from the floor) while pulling down 5.2 rebounds per game and leads the team with 3.6 assists per game. Junior guard Erica Wheeler (5-7) is averaging 8.3 points per game, 2.7 rebounds per game, and leads the team with 35 steals.

Freshman guard/forward Betnijah Laney (6-0) is averaging 6.8 points per game and 4.5 rebounds per game. Freshman guard Briyona Canty (5-9) is averaging 3.9 points per game and 3.8 rebounds per game, playing a key role off the bench.

This is going to be a tough game for the Bulls as they continue to face the elite teams of the conference. Rutgers moves the ball well all over the court, averaging 14.3 assists per game and finding balanced scoring from multiple shooters. The Bulls will need a bigger effort from Orekhova and Wynne to help lead the scoring while the other players such as Saunders, Rowe, and company help battle on the boards and make the open baskets when they have their chances.
