It is game day eve, yes, it is finally here. We can start to count the hours down until the ball finally gets kicked-off in South Bend and hopefully everyone is as pumped up for this as we are.
We have scouted the Notre Dame team all week, preparing you for the highly anticipated game, but a few questions still remain and continue to be the topic of conversations, how will certain players and positions stack up against Notre Dame?
Let's take a look at some of the key match ups that we will watching during the game and see how the Bulls line up with the Irish.
Newly named team captain, B.J. Daniels is the leader of the offense and there is a lot riding on his shoulders. As he goes the team goes and it all leads to his ability to run the offense against the 3-4 defense of ND. Manti Te'o is a monster in the middle of the field and will be likely to blitz and watch the mobility of the defense. It should be interesting to see how they play the mobility of Daniels and if and when they bring pressure with their linebackers.
USF receivers vs. Gary Gray/Robert Blanton
The Bulls have about 7 receivers they are more than confident can line up and produce on the field. Notre Dame has senior defensive backs, but may not have the same speed ability as the Bulls. With a retooled offensive line and Daniels healthy and confident, it will be interesting to see the downfield, vertical passing game and if the Bulls can attack the Irish pass defense.
Scott and Murray are listed as co-running backs and a lot is expected of them to help keep the offense moving this season. The 3-4 defense of ND is loaded with size and experience. Finding open running holes will be hard, but if the offensive line opens them up, it will be interesting to see the running backs, especially Scott, get down field and make plays.
This should be a fun matchup. Giddins is a big time speed rusher that will be a top person to block for ND. Crist is the starter and is not that mobile and coming off of knee surgery. If ND can't block the speed rush of Giddins, he will be pressuring Crist all day and I can't see him getting away and making big plays with his legs like Daniels is capable of.
Washington will most likely take on Floyd in the matchups and the senior captain will be facing an NFL ready wide receiver. If the Bulls can lock down Floyd (don't forget Riddick as well) they will be able to slow the spread offense and try to limit their offensive ability.
So these are just a handful of matchups we will be watching during the game, there are lot more out there, but these are just a few.
