Thoughts on Big East Contacting UCF

From CBS Sports - News broke last night that the Big East Conference has already contacted UCF. An official invitation has not been extended to them as of now, but dialogue is open and an invitation could come soon.

The Big East is also talking to other programs such as Air Force and Navy, but no invitations have been extended to them either. So what does this mean for USF?

It means there isn't much the school can do at this point. While a lot of fans on both sides want to bash each other, this is a logical stance on the conference as a whole and what it means for USF.

Where can USF go? The Big East is trying to stay alive and it would appear USF is along for the ride, along with the other teams in the conference. The ACC is not looking at USF, at least as far as we know. With Pitt and Syracuse, they could be content for now (blocking UCONN though). They might expand again, but no one knows for sure. There are rumors that FSU could be a target for the SEC, but it would mean less television revenue especially in basketball.

The SEC could expand and could take Missouri or even WVU, but nothing has been done yet. The Big 12 could keep Missouri, but if they don't, they could grab Louisville, leaving the Big East even more deflated. A lot of talk and speculation is out there right now, but nothing is happening.

So UCF is high on the Big East list, good for them. Fans might be upset, but face the facts, there's not much USF can do and the options for the Big East are limited. Talks of Boise State, Villanova, bringing Temple, and others are all rumors and there is no indication if any of them will even come true. All the team can do is take care of business on Saturday at UCONN and let the conference talk sort itself out.
