The USF men's soccer team, fresh off their win over then 8th ranked St. John's University, host Big East foe DePaul (game starts at 7:30 PM at Corbett Field).
USF, 7-2-2 (2-0-1), was able to stay in first in the Red Division with the win over SJU. DePaul, 4-6-2 (1-1-1), is looking for the huge upset. But a 0-3-2 record away from home will make it hard, especially facing Dom Dwyer and company.
DePaul is led by junior midfielder Antonio Aguilar (5-7 140-pounds). Aguilar leads the team with 6 goals and 4 assists on the season (has taken 43 shots) so the Bulls will have to slow him down. Freshman forward David Selvaggi (5-9 160-pounds) has 5 goals on the year (34 shots taken) so he adds another dimension to the Blue Demon attack.
Freshman forward Thiago Ganancio (5-10 155-pounds) has 3 goals and 2 assists. Sophomore midfielder Zach Forbes (6-4 185-pounds) has taken 16 shots (hasn't found the net yet). Senior midfielder/defender Matt Leinauer (5-9 165-pounds) has 1 goal and 2 assists. Freshman defender Kyle Gustafson (6-1 165-pounds) has 1 goal and 2 assists to round out the rest of the scoring threat for the Blue Demons.
The Blue Demons have some issues in net. Junior goalkeeper Joe Ferrari (6-3 175-pounds) has allowed 123 goals this season (2.02 per game) and has made 23 saves (.657), allowing opponents to get ahead fast. He has since been replaced by sophomore Eric Sorby (6-2 180-pounds). Sorby has played in 7 games, allowing just 8 goals (1.19 per game). He has made 30 saves (.789) and has totaled a record of 4-1-1, accounting for every DePaul win. Look for Sorby to handle the net duties and try to stop Dwyer and Paul from attacking.
After a tough game with SJU, USF can't afford to sleep through this game, facing an opponent that sits in the bottom of the conference. The Bulls need to come out in this game, execute, and take care of business and improve their Big East standings.
