Scouting Louisville: Defense

The Louisville defense runs the similar 4-3 system that USF runs.  They are great athletes that can get to the ball quickly, so the Bulls will have to find a way to pound the ball and get the ball to the athletes on the perimeter.  Here are the players on the defensive side for the Cards. 

Defensive line

Starting at the defensive end spot (Fox position) is senior William Savoy (6-1 248-pounds).  He has 23 tackles on the season including 7.5 tackles for loss and 5 sacks (tremendous pressure from him).  Sophomore Marcus Smith (6-4 255-pounds) has 10 tackles and 5 sacks in a key reserve role.  Starting at the other defensive end spot is freshman B.J. Dubose (6-4 257-pounds).  He has 17 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, and 2 sacks.  His back-up is freshman Deionterez Mount (6-5 215-pounds) who has 9 tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss (linebacker that can put a hand down and blitz).  Junior Randy Salmon (6-3 286-pounds) is the starting defensive tackle.  He has 20 tackles, 5 tackles for loss and one sack.  Sophomore Randy Philon (6-3 272-pounds) has 29 tackles, 6 tackles for loss and 1 sack on the season.   Sophomore Brandon Dunn (6-3 295-pounds) is the starting nose tackle.  He has 12 tackles and half tackle for loss.  Freshman Jamaine Brooks (6-4 318-pounds) is the back-up and he has 8 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and a half sack on the season. 

Linebackers

Starting at the MIKE linebacker position is sophomore Preston Brown (6-2 258-pounds).  He has 74 tackles, 5 tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks on the season (a tackling machine).  Mount is his back-up (can line up as a linebacker or on the defensive end position).  Lining up at the MIKE linebacker position is senior Dexter Hayman (6-3 239-pounds) has 77 tackles on the season, 14.5 tackles for loss, 4 sacks, and 3 interceptions.  He does everything, coverage and hitting anyone, he is the heart of the defense.  Sophomore Mike Privott (6-0 224-pounds) is his back-up.  Junior Daniel Brown (6-1 219-pounds) is the starting weakside linebacker.  He has 37 tackles, 4 tackles for loss, and one sack on the season.  Sophomore Deon Rogers (6-2 200-pounds) has 6 tackles in a reserve role.

Secondary

Junior Adrian Bushnell (5-11 190-pounds) has 37 tackles, a half tackle for loss, and one interception on the season.  Freshman Terell Floyd (5-10 170-pounds) has 12 tackles and one tackle for loss in the reserve role.  Freshman Andrew Johnson (5-10 178-pounds) is the other starting cornerback (have to attack him).  He has 23 tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss.  Senior Josh Bellamy (6-0 200-pounds) has 9 tackles.  Freshman Calvin Perry (6-1 190-pounds) has 35 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, 1 sack, and one interception on the season.  Senior Terrence Simien (6-3 208-pounds) has 3 tackles as the key reserve.  Sophomore Hakeem Smith (6-1 183-pounds) has 76 tackles, 4 tackles for loss, and has broken up 8 passes.
