Big East Set to Expand Tomorrow

According to Brett McMurphy of CBS Sports, the Big East is set to add Boise State, San Diego State, Houston, UCF, and SMU to the Big East conference on Wednesday according to sources reporting to CBS Sports. They would officially join the conference in 2013.

Boise State and San Diego State would join as football-only members while Houston, UCF, and SMU would join for all sports according to previous reports.

With BYU turning down the Big East, the conference needed to look west for another program in order for Boise State to join the conference. Air Force and Navy could also be added as well, but the first round would be the other programs.

We have been talking about the Big East expanding and things have been quiet as of late, but now it appears the realignment train is back on track and official news could come as soon as tomorrow. We will keep you covered on anything that breaks on the conference expansion and what effects it may have on USF.

  1. It really doesn't matter any more. In the next six months conferences could change again for all we know, but regardless of which teams you think should or should not be added don't you think it's time to rename the conference? It really isn't the "Big East" any more if you have all these teams in west. I mean how stupid does that sound? Big East East vs Big East West?

  2. I'm with you there. This is a sad move of a dying conference. The Big East won't last much longer, other conferences will move in and take other teams and once the AQ status is gone from BCS (if it does) then there is no more point to have this cluster of a conference. It is just stalling at this point. Oh well, just have to play the cards we are dealt with at this point, seems our administration is along for the ride.

  3. Fitting how they wait till Pearl Harbor day to announce that the Big East conference is getting invaded by a bunch of schools foreign to the East, geographically speaking.
