Notes from Skip Holtz Teleconference

From Bulls 247 and Greg Auman - Coach Holtz took some time today via a teleconference to answer some questions surrounding the football team.

The first and foremost question was the issue of finding a new defensive coordinator with Mark Snyder heading to College Station. Holtz wished him the best of luck and was confident that a new coordinator could be in place by as early as next week (Monday or Tuesday). Names such as Greg Hudson (FSU linebackers coach and former DC under Holtz at ECU) and even Wally Burnham (from Bulls 247 and previous DC under Leavitt) are just some of the names that are floating out there. Holtz wants to get this staff in place before National Signing Day to help sure up the recruiting class.

Holtz stated that he sent heavy this season with junior college players due to the injuries the team suffered down the stretch last year and the lack of experience at certain positions.

He stated that Joshua Brown and Fidel Montgomery could both play at cornerback or at safety. Chandlor Mathews-York could play at center or at guard while Lawrence Martin could play either guard or at tackle. Look for all of these players to make an impact next year.

Three key freshmen have also enrolled as well. Defensive end Eric Lee and defensive tackle James Hamilton are now on campus taking class. Holtz stated that Hamilton could make an impact this season along with freshman cornerback Chris Bivins who is recovering from knee surgery, but should be ready by the start of August and could play. (Alex Mut is also on campus now).

Defensive lineman Marquis White is no longer at USF and could be transferring to FAMU (per Auman). Sophomore cornerback Spencer Boyd could transfer out again this season. He was suspended the last 3 games of the season due to a violation of team rules and could be leaving again.
