The countdown begins as we prepare for the 2012 softball season for USF. We will be looking at the top 10 players to watch for the 2012 season, looking at their 2011 season and what they bring to field. So let's begin this countdown with the number 10 player on the roster, Brittany Bowles.
Brittany Bowles - 5-10 - Senior - RHP
Bowles was a key member of the pitching staff in 2011 for USF, even though Sara Nevins overshadowed everyone. Bowles finished the season at 6-3 on the season with a 2.83 ERA. She worked 50.1 innings, allowing 53 hits while striking out 31 batters and walking 20 (held opponents to a .259 batting average on the season). She struggled a bit during the season, allowing too many hits for the innings she worked, but she has the talent to be a big time contributor this season and helps add senior leadership to the young team.
2011 was a down season for Bowles after a strong 2010 season. She went 5-8 with just a 2.62 ERA. She worked 96.1 innings, allowing 110 hits, walking 32 batters and striking out 74. Opponents hit .286 against her. She will be a strong member of the pitching staff in 2012 as long as she lowers the number of hits and gets batters out more effectively.
