Top 10 USF Softball Players: Number 9

(Picture: www.gousfbulls.com)
This countdown continues as we prepare for the softball season. At number 10 we had pitcher Brittany Bowles. This time we have utility player, Laura Fountain.

Laura Fountain - 5-4 - Senior - Utility (Throws right, Bats Left- 3rd base/Catcher)

Fountain played both 3rd base and catcher last season (in 2011) but so mostly the catcher for USF. She batted .261 during the season, driving in 21 runs. She was 7 of 9 in steals and drew 6 walks while striking out 18 times during the season (has to get better at the plate with seeing pitches).  She was very consistent at the plate, hitting for a high average.  She also did an excellent job at the catcher position, helping anchor one of the best young arms in the NCAA, Sara Nevins.

Fountain had a big year on offense and improved her numbers from the 2010 season. In 2010, she hit just .156 with 1 home run and 8 RBIs. She has gotten better at the plate, getting more hits and driving in more runs and will have to continue her progression at the plate as a senior leader for this young USF squad.
