Stan Heath on the Hot Seat?

Is Stan Heath on the hot seat now? (Picture credits: ESPN 1040)
The Bulls are now 8-16 on the season and 2-8 in conference play, putting the Bulls at the bottom of the conference in the Big East (15th place). After a 20-win season last year, the Bulls were expected to be better than this performance. The Bulls have become an afterthought to the USF fan base and now some are beginning to question if head coach Stan Heath is on the hot seat yet. [keep reading]

Coach Heath is 41-54 in his career at USF. Last season, after the 20-wins and a trip to the NIT (first postseason birth in a long time for the Bulls) Athletic Director Doug Woolard granted Heath a brand new 5-year extension. Many thought the Bulls had a coach that was beginning to turn the losing trends around for the program and hopes were renewed.

But this season has been a disaster for the Bulls. Only 8 wins, most against lower opponents and a terrible defeat to Syracuse has many calling for a change. The Bulls have a team that does not seem to have any fire at the moment and is struggling in all phases of the game. The incoming recruits are not highly ranked (Heath is known for recruiting). The Sun Dome and Muma Center will give the Bulls top facilities, so what should the Bulls do with Heath?

I understand that USF made a serious financial investment when they gave Heath the 5-year extension, but finding themselves at the bottom of the Big East again, it brings up the question if the signing of Heath was a bad move. This is not a post to get Heath fired, I am not calling that or want to start that type of bandwagon.

I am asking the question to the USF fans out there? Will the Bulls keep Heath around and see if he can turn this sinking ship around? Or will the Bulls start fresh and look for a new head coach out there? I really don't have an opinion on the matter, but if I had to guess, I believe Heath's job is safe, at least for another year. So what do you think Bull fans?

  3. Well, it doesn't matter that they signed an extension...just find a player to be a patsy and you can fire him with half an investigation. But in as much as we might have needed a change in football, even more so in basketball.

  4. I am beginning to agree more and more, despite the team playing better, he hasn't done a good job recruiting and there is blame all around. I honestly think he will be around another season to get things straightened out. If he continues to struggle after next season, he may pack his bags.

  6. He is not a good coach just a better recruiter.
