USF Lands 14th Commitment of 2013 Class

From Bulls 247 - As Holtz and company were attending the Big East media day, the team landed its 14th commitment of the 2013 class from Jesuit High School (Tampa, FL) OL/DT Robert Garcia.

Garcia (6-4 252-pounds) rated a 2-star recruit by Rivals.com (not rated by 247 sports) had offers from FAU, Air Force, and Iowa State among others but he told Bulls 247 with the commitment that "everything just felt right at USF."

This is the 5th Tampa commitment for the Bulls (Cameron Ruff is another Jesuit HS product that is committed to the Bulls and their 14th commit overall.

Rush Through the Roster: #19 Kenneth Durden

#19 - Kenneth Durden - 6-0 176-pounds - RS Freshman - CB - Valdosta, GA (Lowndes HS)

2011 stats: Durden redshirted his 1st year on campus.

Position on the depth chart: Durden is listed as the number two cornerback behind Fidel Montgomery coming out of the spring.

2012 projection: Durden impressed the coaching staff this spring and is still in a heated race for the second cornerback position.  The battle will go through the fall and Durden has a chance to win the job.  If not, he will be a key back-up this season and see plenty of playing time this year.  He is just one of the many young defensive backs in the Bulls secondary that will rise over the course of the season.

Coach Holtz and Players Dressed to Impress at Big East Media Day

Kayvon wins the award for best dressed.
Today is the Big East Media Day in Rhode Island as the media meets with the head coaches and select players as the season draws ever closer.  Coach Holtz, B.J. Daniels, Evan Landi, Sam Barrington, and Kayvon Webster are representing the Bulls today and this picture, sent out via Twitter from Coach Holtz shows their dress style today. We have to say that while everyone is looking stylish, Kayvon wins the day with the bowtie.

Rush Through the Roster: #19 Jordan Duval

#19 - Jordan Duval - 6-2 219-pounds - RS Sophomore - WR - Tampa, FL (Hillsborough HS)

2011 stats:  Duval appeared in 2 games last year, but did not record a reception.

Position on the depth chart:  Duval did not appear on the two-deep depth chart coming out of the spring.

2012 projection:  Duval is facing a steep challenge with the loaded wide receiving corps the Bulls have.  Duval had a strong spring and drew praise from B.J. Daniels, but will have to work hard to work his way up the depth chart.  Look for him to be a reserve this season and continue to participate on special teams.

Monday, July 30, 2012

Rush Through the Roster: #20 Marcus Shaw

#20 - Marcus Shaw - 5-9 191-pounds - Junior - RB - Arcadia, FL (Desoto HS)

2011 stats:  Shaw appeared in 10 games last season as a reserve RB and as a return specialist.  He carried the ball 20 times for 39 yards (1.9 per carry) and scored 2 TDs. He also returned 6 kick-offs for 172 yards.

Position on the depth chart:  Shaw is listed as the third running back coming out of the spring, tied with Willie Davis.

2012 projection:  The Bulls are looking for big time plays and explosion out of the backfield and Shaw has the speed to make it happen.  He is a bit undersized in the backfield, but can be used in zone reads and in the passing game.  He is also a major kick return threat, so look for the team to get the ball in his hands often this year.

Rush Through the Roster: #21 Demetris Murray

#21 - Demetris Murray - 6-0 224-pounds - RS Senior - RB - Buford, GA (Buford HS)

2011 stats:  Murray appeared in all 12 games last year (starting 4 of them).  He finished the year with 121 carries for 503 yards (4.2 per carry) including 8 touchdowns.  He caught 18 passes for 205 yards (11.4) as well, splitting time in the backfield with Darrell Scott.

Position on the depth chart: Murray is the starting running back coming out of the spring and heading into the season.

2012 projection:  Murray is the starter and will carry a bulk of the rushing duties this season for the Bulls.  He has the size needed to run between the tackles and enough speed to get to the edge.  He is a pass catching threat out of the backfield as well, so look for Murray to rack up career highs this season and be one of the big stars on offense.  The team will need him to have a huge season for the offense to be at their best and he is ready for the task ahead.

Meet the 2012 USF Men's Soccer Team

Soccer fever is back USF fans and after the team made an elite 8 run last season, the team returns to the field with a few new faces as they look to return to the postseason.  Dom Dwyer and Chris Blais are gone, but the 2012 team has a strong returning group of players and a few new comers such as Edwin Moalosi that will make an impact this year.

Rush Through the Roster: #22 George Baker

#22 - George Baker - 5-11 182-pounds - RS Senior - CB - Miami, FL (Archbishop Carroll HS)

2011 stats:  Baker played in 11 games last season (starting 1).  He totaled 14 tackles and 1 TFL (5 tackles vs. UTEP).

Position on the depth chart:  Baker is listed as the number two cornerback behind Kayvon Webster coming out of the spring.

2012 projection: Baker is a senior this season and has been a reserve most of his career.  He has shown glimpses of greatness over the years, but has not been consistent enough to earn large chunks of playing time.  In his final season, he will need to remained focused and will help as a reserve role and help the younger defensive backs on the roster.

Bulls Land 13th Commit of the 2013 Class

From Bulls 247 - The Bulls continue to add to the 2013 recruiting class and this time they landed another big man on the offensive line with the commitment of 3-star offensive guard Dominique Threatt out of East Point, Georgia (Tri Cities High School).

The 6-2 294-pound big man had offers from Georgia, UCF, Cincinnati, and Louisville but decided to call the Bulls his new home with the commitment.  Threatt is a big, strong guard that will be a monster in run blocking.  Watching some tape on him, he is stiff in his hips and ankles when pulling on running and blocking schemes, but with time will smooth that out and with his size will be a wrecking force on the front.

This is the 13th commit for the Bulls, making him the 4th offensive lineman in the class.  He joins Cameron Ruff, Camerson Fraser, and Conner Rafferty on the front 5.

Rush Through the Roster: #24 Bradley Battles

#24 - Bradley Battles - 5-9 206-pounds - RB - RS Junior - Marianna, FL (Marianna HS)

2011 stats:  Battles was suspended the first two games last season due to violation of team rules.  He finished the year with 3 carries for 4 yards.

Position on the depth chart:  Battles is listed as the number 3 running back coming out of the spring practices, tied with Marcus Shaw.

2012 projection: Battles is an enigma for fans.  The former 4-star recruit started one game in his career, but has not lived up to the hype that followed him coming out high school.  He missed time in 2010 due to an ACL injury and was a non-factor last year as he recovered and did not show out enough in practice.  Now with the running back position thin at depth, he has a prime opportunity to prove himself at practice and get onto the field and contribute.

Rush Through the Roster: #24 Ernie Tabuteau

#24 - Ernie Tabuteau - 5-10 198-pounds - DB - Senior - DB - Miami, FL (North Miami HS)

2011 stats:  Tabuteau walked-onto the team and saw action in 4 games, totaling 3 tackles and 2 PBU before missing the rest of the year due to back injuries.

Position on the depth chart:  Tabuteau appeared as the number two strong safety coming out of the spring practices.

2012 projection:  Tabuteau, when healthy, is a key returning player and one of the senior leaders on defense.  He will get playing time this season at the safety position and will help provide depth on special teams and in nickel packages this year.

Friday, July 27, 2012

Rush Through the Roster: #25 Joshua Brown

#25 - Joshua Brown - 6-0 193-pounds - DB - Junior - Lancaster, TX (Lancaster HS) (Arizona Western C.C)

2011 stats: Brown is part of the 2012 recruiting class and enrolled early this spring, participating in practices.

Position on the depth chart: Brown appeared as the number two defensive back (tied with Kenneth Durden) behind Fidel Montgomery at the cornerback position.

2012 projection: The Bulls are looking for depth in the secondary and signed Brown out of the JUCO ranks for that very reason.  In his two years at Arizona Western C.C. Brown totaled 46 tackles, 1 INT, and 23 PBU, showing his ability to play the ball.  Coach Rick Smith has mentioned Brown on several occasions as being just a step behind the starters and will get his chance to play this season as he only gets better with each practice.

Rush Through the Roster: #25 Allen Singleton

#25 - Allen Singleton - 6-0 185-pounds - WR - Senior - 6-0 185-pounds - Ocala, FL (Forest HS)

2011 stats: Redshirted last season.

Position on the depth chart: Singleton did not appear on the two-deep depth chart coming out of the spring.

2012 projection:  Singleton is a reserve wide receiver and with the depth on the roster right now, it will take a lot for him to make it to the field.  He could possibly see time on special teams.

USF Lands 12th Commitment of the 2013 class

Recruiting never takes a day off and as we get closer to the start of the Fall camp, the coaching staff received the 12th commitment for the 2013 class from cornerback Nate Willis (first reported by Bulls 247).

Willis (6-0 180-pounds) is a junior college player for Arizona Western C.C. and is rated 3-stars according to Rivals.  He runs a 4.4 40 time and has several scholarship offers on the table such as Arizona State, Kansas State, Kansas, Mississippi, and Iowa, among others.

This is the Bulls 12th commit for the class and the 3rd cornerback, joining Darius Whitty and Johnny Ward in the secondary.  This is a great pick-up for the Bulls because it will give them another experienced defender in the secondary after Kayvon Webster leaves after the season.  Having another veteran, along with Brown and Montgomery, will help the team mix in the new young defensive backs and provides with even more quality depth.

Welcome to the USF family Mr. Willis!

2012 USF Men's Soccer Team Preview

Soccer season is back (Picture: USF Oracle)
Soccer is back and after a historic 2011 season deep into the postseason, the Bulls under Coach George Kiefer are poised to make more noise in 2012 and hope to go even deeper and reach new levels of success.

Last season, the Bulls went 13-4-4 (7-1-2) including an impressive 8-2-2 at home at the new Corbett Stadium and went 5-1-1 on the road as they clinched the Big East Red Division and made it to the postseason.  The Bulls made it all the way to the Elite 8 where they fell to Creighton, but the historic run by the team and the ever growing support for the program rose to all new levels.

Rush Through the Roster: #26 Mark Joyce

#26 - Mark Joyce - 5-10 200-pounds - Junior - S - Deland, FL (Deland HS)

2011 stats:  Joyce played last season as a key reserve for the Bulls.  He totaled 21 tackles, 1 TFL, 3 PBU, and forced 1 fumble.

Position on the depth chart:  Joyce is listed as the starting free safety coming out of the spring.

2012 projection: Joyce, listed as a starter, will have to battle for the starting position with Lejiste, Jenkins, and others, but he has all the skill and experience needed to win the battle.  Look for Joyce to get on the field a lot this season and put up big numbers whether he is one of the starting safeties or plays a huge role playing in nickel packages.

Meet the 2012 USF Women's Soccer Team

Soccer is back in the air and the ladies are looking to rebound after a somewhat disappointing 2011 season.  The team lost Chelsea Klotz on the front line and Nicole McClure in the net, both major losses from the 2011 squad, but the team returns a strong corps and a young freshmen class that will turn heads this season. Let's take a look at the returning group and the incoming freshmen class and what we can expect from each player.

Rush Through the Roster: #27 Marvin Kloss

#27 - Marvin Kloss - 6-0 198-pounds - RS Sophomore - Kicker - Naples, FL (Barron Collier HS)

2011 stats:  Kloss, the former walk-on, took over kick-off duties from Bonani last year.  He kicked-off 71 times for a total of 4605 yards (69.7 yards per kick).  He had 9 touchbacks and recorded 2 tackles on special teams.

Position on the depth chart:  Kloss is the starting kick-off specialist on the depth chart coming out of spring.

2012 projection: Kloss displayed a powerful leg last year and returns as the kick-off specialist for the Bulls.  Look for him to continue to kick-off but he may also get a few attempts at field goals as well if the score is in hand for the Bulls for him to get better with the kicking position with Bonani leaving after the season as well.

Bucs and Bulls Heaven Closing

From TBO.com: Bucs & Bulls Heaven Store Closing
Sad news for one of the few dedicated Tampa Bay sports stores. Jeff Fox, University of South Florida alum and owner of Bucs and Bulls Heaven has announced that he is closing the store for good. Originally opening in 1996, the store has provided some of the best variety and hard to find sports apparel, gear, and memorabilia for your Tampa Bay sports teams especially the Buccaneers and South Florida Bulls. Unfortunately, after 16 years of wonderful memories and moving the store from its original location on North Florida avenue to a much smaller venue located on Busch boulevard, the downturn in the economy coupled with disappointing Buccaneers seasons with TV blackouts has finally taken its tool on the business.

2012 USF Women's Soccer Season Preview

Soccer is back and Coach Denise Schilte-Brown (34-32-12) and her team are looking to rebound after a somewhat disappointing 2011 campaign for the Bulls. The team began the season well, but faded down the stretch in Big East play, forcing them to miss the postseason.

Rush Through the Roster: #28 Maikon Bonani

#28 - Maikon Bonani - 5-10 175-pounds - RS Senior - Kicker - Lake Wales, FL (Lake Wales HS)

2011 stats:  Bonani was the Bulls placekicker last season.  He connected on 19 out of 26 attempts, including a season long of 49 yards (one of blocked).  He set the school record for most field goals made in a career at 39.  He was 42 of 42 in XPT.

Position on the depth chart: Bonani is the starting place kicker coming out of spring.

2012 projection: Bonani is poised for another record setting season and was recently named to the Lou Groza watch list for best kicker in the nation.  Since returning from his injury in 2009, Bonani has been a stable force at the kicker position and now that he is no longer the kick-off specialist, all his efforts can be focused on field goals and putting points on the  board.

Meet the 2012 USF Volleyball Team

The season is closing in quick, so let's meet the 2012 volleyball team as they prepare for the new era under new HC Courtney Draper and get ready to make some noise in the Big East.

2012 USF Volleyball Season Preview

Volleyball is back!  After spending the 2011 season in the Rec Center (got to love those renovations) the ladies return to the Corral but with a new look team and a new coach on the sidelines as the team begins a new era.

Rush Through the Roster: #29 C.J. Garye

#29 - C.J. Garye Jr. - 6-3 209-pounds - RS Freshman - S - Tallahassee, FL (Lincoln HS)

2011 stats: Garye redshirted his first season at USF.

Position on the depth chart: Garye did not appear on the two-deep depth chart coming out of spring.

2012 projection: Garye has the size to play the safety position and with the limited depth at the position, look for Garye to get playing time as a key reserve player and to contribute on special teams.  He will be a key reserve this season and could be the future at the safety position next season.

Sunday, July 22, 2012

Rush Through the Roster: #30 JaQuez Jenkins

#30 - JaQuez Jenkins - 6-2 189-pounds - RS Junior - DB - St. Petersburg, FL (Lakewood HS)

2011 stats:  Jenkins totaled 13 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, and had 2 interceptions.  He dealt with a hamstring issue during the season that limited his playing time.

Position on the depth chart: Jenkins is listed as the starting strong safety coming out of the spring (Jon Lejiste, the normal starting strong safety, did not participate during the spring and left off of depth chart).

2012 projection: The key to Jenkins is staying healthy.  He has dealt with concussion symptoms during the spring and the hamstring has been an issue in the past.  When healthy, Jenkins is a skilled ballhawk, but has to be more consistent and simply stay on the field for more than a handful of games.  Look for him to have a solid season, pending his health.

Rush Through the Roster: #31 Chris Bivins

(Picture: 247 Sports)

#31 - Chris Bivins Jr. - 5-11 170-pounds - Freshman - CB - Gainesville, FL (Gainesville HS)

2011 stats:  Bivins is part of the 2012 recruiting class and enrolled early this spring.

Position on the depth chart: Bivins did not appear on the two-deep depth chart and did not participate fully this spring as he recovers from ACL surgery suffered last season.  He should be cleared by the start of the fall.

2012 projection: Bivins should be ready to participate in practices this fall and Holtz and staff have openly stated they believe he can play this season (no redshirt for this talented defender).  Bivins is a great corner that can blanket a receiver and can make the openfield tackle.  He was one of the top recruits in the 2012 class and for good reason.  Look for him to make an impact this season and become a great star of the future for the Bulls.

Saturday, July 21, 2012

Rush Through the Roster: #32 Willie Davis

#32 - Willie Davis - RB - 5-9 203-pounds - RS Freshman - Lithonia, GA (Stephenson HS)

2011 stats: Redshirted his first year.

Position on the depth chart: Did not appear in the final two-deep spring depth chart, but practiced throughout the spring with the 1st, 2nd and 3rd team offense.

2012 projection: Davis currently sits behind Murray, Lamar, and Shaw on the depth chart.  He will need to continue to work in the weight room and come the fall practice, will show he not only has the great speed to be a game changer, but can handle the carries between the tackles. He was already gotten into the mix with the units in practice, so he is getting some notice from the coaching staff early.  Look for him to get a few carries this year.

Rush Through the Roster: #33 Miles Bennett

#33 Miles Bennett - 5-11 199-pounds - Freshman - RB - Tampa, FL (Jesuit HS)

2011 stats: Once a commit of Navy, Bennett transferred to USF and will be active this season.

Position on the depth chart:  Bennett did not appear on the depth chart coming out of spring.

2012 projection: Bennett is low on the depth chart after joining the team in the spring, but the former 2-star recruit has pretty good size at 5-11 and could be a potential sleeper this season.  While he may only see carries in reserve time, he does help add depth and could even factor in on special teams.

Friday, July 20, 2012

Rush Through the Roster: #33 Spencer Boyd

#33 - Spencer Boyd - DB - 5-10 179-pounds - RS Sophomore - Cape Coral, FL (Cape Coral HS) (Notre Dame)

2011 stats: Boyd appeared in 7 games last season, totaling 3 tackles (2 vs. Ball State) appearing on special teams as well).

Position on the depth chart: Boyd did not appear on the two-deep spring depth chart, but will see time at defensive back or even safety.  He can also be a contributor on special teams as well.

2012 projection:  There was talk that Boyd could possibly transfer after the 2011 season, but that has been dismissed and Boyd is working hard to crack the defensive back rotation for the Bulls.  He will get a lot of playing time on special teams and can be rotated in on defense as well.

Rush Through the Roster: #34 DeDe Lattimore

#34 - DeDe Lattimore - LB - 6-1 238-pounds - RS Junior - Athens, GA (Cedar Shoals HS)

2011 stats: Lattimore started all 12 games last season at the WILL linebacker position and was named 2nd All Big East. Lattimore finished the year with 94 tackles (career high), 13 tackles for loss, 7 sacks, 1 interception, 2 PBU, 2 FF, and 1 FR.

Position on depth chart: Lattimore is listed as the starting WILL linebacker again, he is a 2 year starter at the position entering the fall camp.

2012 projection: Lattimore has improved every year he has been a starter for the Bulls and the 2012 season could be the best yet.  Lattimore is a very fast and aggressive linebacker that is often sent in blitz packages and gets behind the line of scrimmage.  He is solid in pass coverage and can tackle in open space.  He is one of USF's best players and could have a huge season for the defense.

Thursday, July 19, 2012

Rush Through the Roster: #35 Mike Jeune

#35 - Mike Jeune - 6-0 224-pounds - LB - Jacksonville, FL (Terry Parker HS) (Independence C.C)

2011 stats: Jeune made an impact coming over from the JUCO level.  Jeune had 23 tackles, 4 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, 1 PBU, 1 FF, and 1 FR.

Position on the depth chart:  Jeune is listed as the number two WILL linebacker behind DeDe Lattimore coming out of the spring.

2012 projection: Jeune is known for his run stopping ability and hard hitting tackles.  He can play at any of the linebacker position, but figures to be at WILL or MIKE this year as a key reserve.  He will also get playing time on special teams because of his ability to make tackles on the ball carrier in the open.

Rush Through the Roster: #36 Sam Barrington

#36 - Sam Barrington - 6-1 230-pounds - LB - Senior - Jacksonville, FL (Terry Parker HS)

2011 stats:  Barrington started all 12 games last year at the SAM linebacker position.  He totaled 72 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, 1 interception, 2 PBU, and forced 2 fumbles.

Position on the depth chart: Barrington is the starting SAM linebacker for the second straight season coming out of the spring.

2012 projection: Barrington is one of the most experienced leaders on the USF defense and is a force in the middle of the field.  Barrington helps anchor a great front 7 that will be the strength of the defense all season long.  Look for him to have another big season at the SAM position.  He is a great tackler, getting behind the line of scrimmage and is a natural in dropping back for passing situations as well, utilizing his great speed.

Wednesday, July 18, 2012

Rush Through the Roster: #37 Spencer Cavalieri

(Picture: www.gousfbulls.com)
#37 Spencer Cavalieri - 6-2 239-pounds - Redshirt Freshman - Fullback - Tampa, FL (Gaither HS)

2011 stats: Cavalieri redshirted in his first season with the Bulls after walking on.

Position on the depth chart: Cavalieri did not appear on the depth chart coming out of the spring.

2012 projection: Cavalieri as a fullback will not be used much in this offense, but is a key young player for the team heading into the future.  With Breit leaving after this season, he could get a chance on blocking or goal line situations.

Unit Analysis: Quarterback

We have reached the final unit of our analysis series.  Time to take a look at the quarterback position.  Senior B.J. Daniels is the starter as he looks to take the team to the Big East title in his final season, but there are major questions on the depth chart as the team heads into the Fall.

Rush Through the Roster: #37 Trevon Griffin

(Picture: www.gousfbulls.com)
#37 - Trevon Griffin - 6-0 211-pounds - FS - RS Sophomore - Miami, FL (Miramar HS)(Navy)

2011 stats:  Griffin, a former Navy player, joined the football team last year and took a redshirt.

Position on the depth chart: Griffin appeared as the reserve free safety on the two-deep depth chart coming out of the spring.

2012 projection: Griffin has been impressing the coaches this fall and with the lack of experienced depth in the secondary, Griffin should see some playing time this year as a back-up and on special teams.  He will be a key member this year and will need to step up this fall to hold his position.

Bulls Land 11th Commitment of 2013 Class

From Greg Auman and Bulls 247 - The Bulls continue to recruit the talented high schools as they landed the 11th commitment today from Mitchell Wright out of Plant High School.

Mitchell Wright (6-3 210-pounds) out of Plant High School here in Tampa is the 11th commitment for the class of 2013.  The 2-star prospect (according to Rivals.com) is an outside linebacker/defensive end, but is suited to play linebacker at the college level.  Wright selected the Bulls over Boston College (also had offers from FAU and UMass as well).

Wright fills a big need position for the Bulls linebacking corps that loses two starters after this season.  With a little time in the weight room, Wright could be a starter in a year or two.  He is a fast, athletic linebacker that has high energy and always seems to be in the middle of every tackle, a nice addition to the team.  In his junior season, Wright recorded 73 tackles, 29 tackles for loss, and 10 sacks, so he is a very active playmaker that will make an immediate impact for the Bulls.

Congrats to Mr. Wright and welcome to the family!

Rush Through the Roster: #38 Ricardo Dixon

(Picture: Sherief Hussein)
#38 Ricardo Dixon - 5-11 167-pounds - Junior - Cornerback - Hallandale, FL (Hallandale HS)

2011 stats: Dixon appeared in 6 games for the Bulls, recording 2 tackles and an interception against UTEP before he tore his ACL and missed the rest of the season.

Position on the depth chart: Dixon did not participate with the team as he continues to recover from the ACL surgery after last season.

Projection for this season: Dixon is still recovering from his ACL injury so he will be very limited this season and his status for the fall camp is still in the air.  It will be a shocker this season if he is able to return to full strength and may have to take a medical redshirt, but we are hoping he can return to the field.  He is a fast, athletic player that could make some plays once healthy.

(Really cool picture of Mr. Dixon.  It was a Google search and the name Sherief Hussein was listed for credit)

Rush Through the Roster: #39 Tyler Robb

(Picture: www.gousfbulls.com)
#39 - Tyler Robb - 5-9 196-pounds - CB - Freshman - Tampa, FL (Tampa Catholic HS)

2011 stats: Robb redshirted after walking onto the team.

Position on the depth chart: Robb did not appear on the two-deep depth chart coming out of spring.

2012 projection: Robb walked onto the football program after a successful career in high school where he totaled 235 tackles and 2 INTs during his playing days.  He will probably be a scout team member/special team reserve season due to the depth on the roster.

Monday, July 16, 2012

Rush Through the Roster: #40 Chris Breit

#40 Chris Breit - 5-11 219-pounds - Senior - Fullback - Tampa, FL (H.B. Plant HS)

2011 stats:  After converting from linebacker to fullback in the spring, Breit recorded 1 reception for 22 yards against Louisville last season.

Position on the depth chart: Breit is listed as the starting fullback on the season, although his use will be limited.

2012 projection: Breit is the starting fullback ahead of Wilcox and Turner, but the position is not used that often by the offense, so Breit will get minimal carries and action this season.  With his size and skill set, he is a key player in blocking, but not a big weapon for the Bulls.

Unit Analysis: Running Backs

The Bulls have a solid group of running backs this season that will try to carry the rushing burden and take the pressure off of B.J. Daniels and his legs.  USF has a solid running back in Demetris Murray, but there are questions remaining with the depth behind him on the roster.  Let's take a look at the backfield (including the fullbacks).

Rush Through the Roster: #40 Kalin Hall

(Picture: www.gousfbulls.com)
#40 - Kalin Hall - 6-2 221-pounds - LB - Senior - Bradenton, FL (Bayshore HS)

2011 stats: Hall redshirted last season.

Position on the depth chart: Hall did not appear on the two-deep depth chart coming out of spring.

2012 projection: Being a walk-on, Hall has limited chances to get on the field unless he really shines this fall.  Look for him to be part of the scout team and perhaps get a few chances on special teams.

Sunday, July 15, 2012

Rush Through the Roster: #42 Jake Carlton

#42 Jake Carlton - 6-3 233-pounds - Tight End - Redshirt Sophomore - Bradenton, FL (Lakewood Ranch HS)

2011 stats:  Carlton appeared in  games for the Bulls, but was primarily a special teams player.  He recorded 1 tackle against Rutgers.

Position on the depth chart: Carlton appeared as the number two tight end on the depth chart behind Evan Landi coming out of the spring.

2012 projection: The Bulls have a lot of depth at the tight end position so Carlton could have a battle of his hands to get playing time.  Depending on Price and Shields in the fall, Carlton could be a reserve again for the season, but should see action and hopefully will record some more stats this season.

Rush Through the Roster: #42 Corian Hamilton

(Picture: www.gousfbulls.com)
#42 - Corian Hamilton - 6-0 230-pounds - LB - RS Freshman - Orlando, FL (Olympia HS)

2011 stats: Hamilton redshirted his freshman season.

Position on the depth chart: Hamilton did not appear on the two-deep depth chart coming out of the spring.

2012 projection: Hamilton is a very fast and agile linebacker that has the tools needed to be a force in the middle.  In his high school career he totaled 269 tackles and 24 INTs, so the play-making ability is there.  Look for him to rise to the occasion this fall and work his way onto the field as a reserve and/or special teams.

Rush Through the Roster: #44 Tyler Guy

#44 Tyler Guy - 6-5 244-pounds - Sophomore - Tight End - Dade City, FL (Freedom HS)

2011 stats: Guy appeared in 1 game against FAMU but did not record any stats.

Position on the depth chart: Guy did not appear on the two-deep depth chart coming out of spring.

2012 projection: Guy has great size and has experience in the system, but he is down on the depth chart behind the starters.  He will see only limited action this season, perhaps when games are over (like Chattanooga) and hopefully he can record some kind of stat then.

Rush Through the Roster: #44 Antoine Pozniak

#44 - Antoine Pozniak - 6-2 233-pounds - LB - RS Freshman - Jersey City, NJ (Bishop Grims HS)

2011 stats: After enrolling early last spring, Pozniak redshirted his first season.

Position on the depth chart: Pozniak did not appear on the two-deep depth chart coming out of spring.

2012 projection: The Bulls are looking for the young linebackers to develop and help provide depth at the position this season behind the seniors and Pozniak has a great chance to fill this role.  He has the size and speed needed to become a great linebacker.  Look for him on special teams or as a key reserve this season.
