Justin Brockhaus-Kann is the starting punter this season and should have a great year(Picture: Sun-Sentinel.com) |
The way to early look ahead continues as this time I will take a look at the kickers and punters. Maikon Bonani came on strong for the Bulls season as he returned to full health while Justin Brockhaus-Kahn did a solid job at punter. Here are the kickers and punters headed into the 2011 season.
Maikon Bonani will be the starting kicker in 2011. The 5'9" 190-pound senior is an excellent place kicker with a very accurate leg. He has progressed at kickoffs and should be an All-Conference performer if he stay healthy and continue his great work. Behind him is a group of very inexperienced players. There is Marvin Kloss (6' 185-pound freshman) and Renato Proia (6' 227-pound -freshman and former soccer player) but both will be behind Bonani and probably won't get onto the field.
At punter, Justin Brockhaus-Kahn (JBK) leads the way. The 6'2" 226-pound kicker helps gives the Bulls a leg that helps win the battle of field position. He had some back issues during the season, but is at full health and should have a big season for the Bulls Once again there is not much depth behind him with freshman Chris Veron (6'3" 210-pounds) backing him.
Walk-on freshman Mattias Ciabatti is joining the team after not receiving a full scholarship offer from the Bulls. He will most likely redshirt this season, but could be a kicker down the road for the Bulls.
The Bulls have excellent kickers, but the depth could be an issue if someone gets injured on the field. There is plenty of talent here, but the lack of inexperience is never comforting. Both Bonani and JBK should have solid seasons for the Bulls. It may not be the most glamorous position on the field, but Bonani and BJK play a huge role for the Bulls.
Veron.
