Grading Jawanza Poland

What grade does Poland get?
Time to grade the highlight reel that is Jawanza Poland. Poland, the JUCO transfer from Hutchinson Community College made an immediate impact on the Bulls and became a fan favorite from day one (who doesn't love his name, JAWANZA!). Poland made plenty of highlights, but what grade does he get for his work this season? [keep reading]

Poland, the 6'4" 200-pound guard, became a highlight reel with his incredible athletic ability. From his impressive dunks to his intense defense, Poland had a solid year in his first season with the Bulls. Coming off the bench most of the year, Poland had foul trouble during a lot of games that limited what he could do on offense, but he has plenty of talent.

Poland averaged 9.2 points per game this year. He shot 35.7% from the field but only 22.6% from 3-point range. He also averaged 2.5 rebounds per game, 1.8 assists per game, and 2.2. turnovers per game. Poland's game is mid-range and driving to the bucket. He is not a talented long range shooter, but will pull up if open. Poland has incredible speed and ability to drive to the hoop and get contact, but doing so leads to turnovers and tough shots. He needs to be more consistent in his shot selection and finish at a higher percentage at the basket.

On defense, Poland is a very aggressive player. He uses his body well, but uses his hands a lot as well which gets him into foul trouble often, making him sit out large portions of games. He has the ability to alter shots and has incredible ability to get up in the air and block shots (remember his block during the Pitt game?) Poland has to play more controlled defense and not get into foul trouble so he can stay on the court longer.

Poland is a very exciting player and should have a great season next year for Heath. He has so much athletic ability that he could take his game to another level and truly become a top scorer on the team next year.

Final grade: B
