From Greg Auman last night -It appears that the rematch against the hated Gators has been delayed again and may not happen for some time as the 2015 match up has been postponed, again.
AD Woolard stated that the game that was scheduled to play in 2015 is no longer on the schedule, but the Bulls and Gators are still contractually bound to each other, so the game will happen at some point.
Woolard and USF tend to schedule home-and-home non-conference games, much like they have done with FSU and Miami, the only exception being the road game against Notre Dame this season. The Bulls are also hesitant to schedule too many games in the future with the possibility of expanding the football conference and adding more games to the schedule, limiting the number of non-conference games USF can have.
Personally, I am disappointed in this outcome. The Gators are a tough in-state opponent and drew a huge following for the show down last season. The game will be played at some point, but it could take several years to get the conference schedule straightened out and get each side on the same page as well.

ReplyDeleteThat sucks! By 2015 all of Leavitt's recruits will have all cleared out. I was hoping to see how Skip Holtz's first genuine top-to-bottom roster was going to compete. It would be a great way to measure how well he had recruited and developed the program.
ReplyDeleteDon't worry, Holtz's recruiting will only get better by whenever they reschedule this game. I wonder who requested the change though. I'm betting Florida. Not because they're scared of us, but because they don't respect us and think they can just kick our matchups around however they want.

ReplyDeleteI wouldn't be surprised if USF initiated the move. We couldn't realistically have two big road games in a year with the new conference schedule. It was either move Indiana or Florida.
ReplyDeleteAt least the game will be played. Hopefully not too long after 2015.
It was supposed to be played in 2009. I suspect that USF called to move the game, but it didn't seem like the right move when I first heard it. Although in 2015 they would only get six home games if they went to Gainesville and Bloomington, so it makes sense schedule-wise.
