USF hires new basketball assistant coach

Stan Heath added a solid member to his coaching staff today.
From Greg Auman - The Bulls have filled their coaching void after assistant coach Jeremy Cox left for Nebraska. The Bulls announced today the hiring of former Lamar University head coach Steve Roccaforte.

The former head coach finished last season at Lamar with a 13-17 record and finished his head coaching career with a 76-78 record.

The biggest plus for Roccaforte is his ability to recruit. Roccaforte earned national attention as a great recruited while working under John Calipari when he was the head coach at Memphis. Roccaforte was part of a staff that was able to put together top-10 recruiting classes successfully over the years and will try to do the same for the Bulls.

Roccaforte was quoted saying "I am excited to work for Stan Heath...I think he is on the verge of something very big at USF"

This seems like a very solid pick up for the USF basketball program as they continue to undergo a bit of transition this off season. Cox was a solid recruiter for the Bulls and will need Roccaforte to continue his past success. With a new stadium in the works, the new Muma Center and a growing campus in the middle of the Big East, Heath and Roccaforte should be able to recruit well and bring in excellent talent to the team. Hopefully they can get a few more wins next season and get off to a better start.

  1. Now if only we could get a new head coach we'd be set

  2. Technically, it's not going to be a new stadium or dome. The Sun Dome is just being gutted and renovated on the inside, and the outside will get some much-needed TLC.
