Five Most Important Players for 2011: Number 4

Kayvon Webster needs to have a huge season for the Bulls defense.
With A.J. Love and Sam Barrington in the books at number 5, this short segment continues as we look at the most important players for the 2011 season. Remember, these are the players that have to step up for the Bulls. They are either star players or new comers that have to step and make an impact this season to help the Bulls claim their first Big East title. Here are the players that come in at number 4 on the list that have to step up and make it happen this season. [keep reading]

Freshman right tackle Quinterrius Eatmon checks in at number 4 on the offensive side of the ball for most important players for the Bulls. Now, right tackle is not usually the most important player, it goes to the left tackle, but when a freshman wins the job coming out of Spring ball, it has to be noted. Eatmon, the 6-6 299-pound stud won the job over Estenor and will look to keep his place.

Eatmon is highly regarded to the coaches. He has worked hard, losing over 50-pounds, and improving his overall ability. I predict he will be looking over his back all season as Estenor and others push him for playing time, but it is good competition. The Bulls will need him to be at his best and help sure up the line and help protect Daniels all year.

On the defensive side of the ball, cornerback Kayvon Webster checks in on the list (remember this list is not bad, but it states the players that have to come up big on the season because so much is in their hands).

The 5-11 193-pound defensive back totaled 29 tackles last season, including one for loss, but didn't come up with an interception (teams were wise not to throw his way).

Webster has been working hard this off season, running track to better his speed and getting more comfortable in the defensive scheme of Mark Snyder. With Quenton Washington locking down the other side of the field and the lack of proven depth behind him, Webster has to come up big this season and make the defense the strength of the team once more.

So these are the players that step in at number 4 on the top 5 player list. What are your thoughts on these selections and do you think they will be able to step up there game and make a huge impact this season?

  1. I'm impressed with the quality of the blog so far. Wondering if you will also be covering Men's soccer in the spring (big fan!).

I agree that the secondary is going to be extremely important, such as Kayvon Webster, especially since Mistral Raymond graduated. Afterall, defense is the reason we went 8-5 last season instead of 5-8. e.g. Rutgers game.

  2. Thank you for the kind words. Yes, we will be covering soccer once the season starts.

Kayvon, Quenton, Baker, Dixon and others are going to be the key for the secondary. They will have to step up this season.
