Bulls in the NFL: Nate Allen Recovering for Eagles

Find out how former USF safety Nate Allen is doing with the Eagles and how he is recovering from his knee injury.
The Eagles are one of the most talked about NFL teams right now due to their recent moves in their secondary. With the signing of Nnamdi Asomugha, the trade for Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and veteran cornerback Asante Samuel, the Eagles secondary is loaded with talent. However, they have another player, a former Bull, that is making his way back from a nasty knee injury and come make a big impact on their season. [keep reading]

Safety Nate Allen is working hard to make his way back to the field after suffering a bad knee injury last year. The 23-year old safety played in 13 games for the Eagles before he tore his patellar tendon in his right knee, ending his season and putting him on the long road to recovery. Allen had 48 tackles at that point in the season including 2 sacks, a forced fumble, 8 passes defended and 3 interceptions. The 6-1 210-pound star from Fort Myers had been making a name for himself before the injury and now he is looking to get back to action.

Allen has stated he is about 85% healthy at this point and has claimed he should be ready by the start of the season, which is great news for the Eagles defense which will only get stronger with Allen patrolling deep and looking for any unfortunate receiver to come his way.

Allen made a name for himself during his career at USF. Allen finished his playing days at USF with 144 tackles, starting in 39 games. He has 5 tackles for loss, 1 sack, 9 interceptions (the biggest against Auburn of course) and broke up 12 passes. Allen was a great defender, never afraid to come up to the line and played the pass well and he showed his talent to the Eagle fans early and often in his first season.

We hope Allen is healthy through training camp and is able to make his way onto the field early in the season. With talented corners all over the place, Allen will be in great company and he could have a break out season for Andy Reid and company.

  1. Allen was a lot of fun to watch at USF. Probably the last safety in recent history who could still pressure the line and cover his man/zone. Best of luck to his recovery.
