Mark Snyder is getting a few more dollars for his impressive work with the defense (Picture: www.gousfbulls.com) |
From Greg Auman - All 9 of the USF assistant coaches under Skip Holtz got a pay increase the other day and defensive coordinator Mark Snyder is the richest of them all.
Coach Snyder, who's defense ranked 17th in the country in total defense and 22nd in scoring defense, saw a large pay increase and is now making $260,000 per season, the highest paid assistant on the staff.
Other coaches were well compensated and rightly so. Defensive tackle Kevin Patrick and tight end coach Larry Scott, two of the best recruiters on the staff, saw their pay increased to $135,000. Wide receiver coach Phil McGeoghan got a $10,000 increase, paying him $90,000 per season (more than I make).
I think the pay increases are well deserved for the work that has been accomplished in such a short time since Holtz took over the program. The defense, which many thought would have a difficult season with the loss of so many household names and now NFL stars, became the reason the Bulls won as many games as they did and stayed in just as many games. Snyder, the former defensive coordinator from Ohio State and former head coach of Marshall, worked miracles and had opposing offenses worried about the "no-name" defense.
From all accounts, it sounds like the coaches are being paid according to their work, at least so far. I do think that Scott and Patrick should get another raise for the outstanding coaching work they do as well as recruiting. The Bulls are putting together a top 25 recruiting class for 2012, the first time that has happened in program history as the program continues to flourish and reel in the top players in the state (working hard out of state as well).
Let's hope all this increased paid is worth the investment by athletics and helps bring home the Big East crown.
