They are still working on gutting the Sun Dome. Designs are still being drawn up as well. |
According to tweets from Bill McGillis a few days ago, he, along with the rest of the design team are still working with architects to get the final drawings and designs put together. It takes a lot of time to completely gut and redesign a major facility like the Sun Dome and the extra time will be worth the wait.
Fans need to relax just a little bit about the drawings. Yes, it is frustrating and the eagerness to see something is getting to everyone. I would love to see the new designs myself, but will have to wait and continue to read the updates and original ideas that athletics mentioned before for the Sun Dome.
McGillis and team will make sure the Sun Dome looks incredible once it is all done. It doesn't matter how fast they plan and get the drawings done, the teams will still be homeless this season. The men's basketball team will play at UT, Lakeland, the St. Pete Times Forum, and on the road (thought crowd attendance was bad last season huh?). The women's team will play a handful of games in the Upper gym of the Rec center, a few double headers with the men's team and on the road, and the volleyball team will play in the Rec center as well.
For now all we know about the designs are that reconfigurations for the 10,000-seat arena will include construction of a seating bowl that wraps around the court, a new club lounge, loge boxes and a new large concourse featuring upgraded concessions, restrooms, ticket offices and a team store.
So when the images are available, trust me, we will have it covered.
