Final Thoughts on Win Over Notre Dame

This is a huge win not only for this season, but for the program as well.
It is still sinking in, but the victory over Notre Dame actually happened. After all the talk, discussion, and speculation, the team finally hit the field and made history, knocking off a ranked team on the road despite the insane weather conditions.

For the first time in history, ND had to evacuate the stadium due to the lightning and the safety of the fans and players. After two hours the Bulls were able to get back to action and then were stopped before they could end it with more weather in the area.

On offense, the Bulls were really held in check most of the game. They had several drives that moved the ball. Daniels scrambled more than we have seen in the past (faith in depth chart behind him) and he made excellent passes when he did throw the ball. It was good to see Sterling Griffin out there leading the way and Love making a few catches as well. The offensive line held up for the most part. Murray and Scott looked good running the ball, especially Murray after several strong runs.

The defense came through again for the Bulls. The turnovers were huge. Interceptions, the strip by Young, and simply slowing down the ND attack. Floyd got his yards and Wood did run through the center of the defensive line, but they got pressure and swarmed on tackles, making the plays they had to. They had their mistakes, but compared to what ND is capable of, we did well.

Special teams was quiet, at least on returns. Bonani was 2 for 3, missed a 52-yard field goal. JBK had a few solid punts, but overall didn't have a great net average on the day (have to work on that). Kloss looked strong kicking off for the Bulls and will probably win that job the rest of the season.

This is a huge win, not just for the program, Holtz, or our record, but for the future, recruiting, and overall respect, it elevates us to a higher level. Huge win, congrats to the team, but now it is time to prepare for Ball State on Saturday.
