USF Lands Big 2012 Commit

Coach Heath got some great news last night (could use some good news for this upcoming season though)
While the football team was getting to work last night, Stan Heath got a big time commitment for the class of 2012, a name he has recruited before, center Waverly Austin.

Austin, the 6-10 center out of Palm Beach State Community College, was one of the top JUCO players in the country. After visiting Memphis (had a solid visit) Austin had cut his final list down to North Carolina, Miami, Kansas and USF. Last night, he made it official, he is a Bull.

At Palm Beach, Austin averaged 18 points per game including 10 rebounds per game, 3 blocks per game, and shot 82% from the free throw line, so an overall talented player that can shoot for a high percentage and play hard on defense, something the Bulls desperately need in the paint.

Austin was originally a commit for Heath coming out of high school in 2009, but due to academics, was forced to go the junior college path. Since then, he has continued to raise his level of play and is now back at USF, where he wanted to be from the start.

Austin has been in contact with recent shooting guard commit Musa Abdul-Aleem and both are excited about coming to USF and trying to turn the program around (will probably be roommates).

This is a huge commit for Heath. With Gilchrist and Anderson both leaving after next season, the need for playmakers in the paint is a huge concern for Heath, so this is exactly what he needed. Great commitment and welcome to the family Austin!
