Youth to See More Playing Time for USF

Wide receiver Ruben Gonzalez and other freshman could get their chance to shine these next few weeks.
As mentioned in an article yesterday by Adam Adkins, Coach Holtz wants to begin mixing in some of the true freshman into the playcalling.

Holtz made a statement before the season started that a number of true freshman had a great chance to get onto the field this season and now with three straight home non-conference games, he may start adding them into the rotation.

<
Holtz feels by adding them into the mix, the team will become better down the road and facing different styles of the non-conference opponents will help prepare them for Big East play.

Some freshman have already gotten onto the field such as defensive tackle Elkino Watson and kicker Marvin Kloss. Wide receivers Ruben Gonzalez, Andre Davis, and fullback Tye Turner have been mentioned as players that have the strongest chance of getting onto the field.

Davis and Gonzalez bring a lot of talent to an already stacked wide receiver position. Coaches have raved about their ability to get down field and jump for passes with a defender on them, giving the quarterback a huge and reliable deep threat (vertical passing game anyone?) Turner gives the Bulls a big physical presence at fullback and could be a key player in goal-line situations.

It should be interesting to see how the Bulls use the young player, get them use to game speed, and mix them into the playcalling in these next three big weeks for the team.

Note: As mentioned by Adkins and Auman, the Bulls will be wearing the number 63 decal on their helmets for the rest of the season in memory of Lee Roy Selmon.
