Anger Growing Among USF Fans

Even old Lou is angry about this season.

5-6, yes, the Bulls are 5-6 as they dropped another game, this time a game to Louisville in which they had the lead for the first half and had more than enough chances to win. So, what happened to this season? After the 4-0 start, the fan base was excited, energy was at an all time high, but now after this loss, the fans are looking for Black Friday deals on pitch forks.

As V5 pointed out yesterday in their post we don't hate the players, we watch every game, support the team and the effort they put out there, but as a fan, the results are frustrating on so many levels.

The season began with talks of the Big East title and why not, the conference continues to be a confusing cluster of teams that can beat anyone on any day, so the chances for USF were there. They had the same coaching coming back for a consecutive year, B.J. Daniels was primed for a better year, they have more running ability, depth at receiver, and a strong secondary that was suppose to be one of the best in program history. However, after the Pitt lost, the real face of the team began to emerge and it has been downhill ever since.

There are a lot of things that continue to anger me and the fans of the Bulls. For one, the execution of the players on the field. Watching the Louisville game, there were multiple mental mistakes, players out of position, not getting to their assignment and the Cards blew the secondary apart. Players that needed to step up this year have not lived up to the hype and continue to hurt the team. Part of the blame can be put on the coaches for this as well. As Holtz has said, the coaching staff has to do a better job (should be doing it better every day coach) and they are right. We have vented on here about the bad play calling from Fitch and Snyder and it seems they continue to muddle around and have not fixed everything on their to-do list. Is this a reflection on Holtz, yes it is.

Maybe we are being a little too harsh on the team and the coaching staff. Injuries have mounted for the team, but that should not be an excuse. The real reason for the anger for the fans is the passion they have to see the team succeed and reach the next level. The Bulls have been 8-5 for so many years, getting to a bowl game, but never breaking into that next level, elevating the program. Leavitt could not do it, but fans have faith in Holtz and now that the team that started with such high hopes has come crashing down (facing a losing season, first since 2004) the anger is rising. Only 19, 115 fans showed up for the game against Louisville. Some of the blame goes on the geniuses who scheduled the game (great work Woolard) but also for the fans that were out of town. But if the team had been ranked and battling for a bigger bowl game, wouldn't there be more fan support that what was there? The Bulls have one more game on the season, the Thursday night game vs. WVU. To be honest, we aren't expecting a win in this game either, as horrible as it is to say. We hope we are wrong.
