We continue to look at the 2011-2012 women's team as we look at the arguably the best player on the roster, Andrea Smith. The senior guard was nearly unstoppable last season, but went down in the Big East tournament with a torn ACL. She will probably miss time to start the season, but when she returns, she will own the Big East once more.
Andrea Smith - 5-8 - Senior - Guard
Smith exploded in her first season, burning nets and sending opposing defenses to the shower early. She averaged 16. 5 points per game, ranking third in the Big East (first place was Maya Moore, not many could catch her). Smith did it from the paint and from the 3-point line. She drained 8 3-pointers in one game, second most in a game in USF history, not bad for a first year player from junior college.
Like we said before, Smith will be limited early as she returns from the torn ACL. She has not been cleared by the medical staff to play in the first game against Florida State, but she should return within a few games into the season and become the go-to scorer again like she was last season. There is a lot expected of her this season and if fully healthy, she will lead the team once more.
