USF MBB Gets Win Over FAU 68 to 55

Toarlyn Fitzpatrick had a huge night as the Bulls got win number 5 on the season.

The Bulls continued their strong play at "home" tonight as they notched another victory, this time over FAU 68 to 55. The Bulls led by over 20 points in the second half, but the Owls rallied to make it a little bit closer, but the USF lead never went below 12 points on the night. They were without Augustus Gilchrist again in this game, but the Bulls would not need him as they improve to 5-2 on the season.

Toarlyn Fitzpatrick, making his second start with Gilchrist out, came up big for USF. He had a double-double with 17 points, 14 rebounds, and added 3 blocks as well. Ron Anderson Jr. had 14 points, 12 rebounds, and 3 blocks. He went 4 of 7 from the free throw line, improving his shot after his bad performance last game. Victor Rudd had 11 points and 5 rebounds. LaVonte Dority had 2 points, 2 rebounds, and just one assist in 11 minutes on the court.

The real story of the night was the play of freshman guard Anthony Collins. Collins had 12 points, a career high 7 assists, and 4 steals on the night. Collins moved all over the court, dishing out passes and cutting down the lane to get his points. Collins continues to get more minutes and it seems Heath is impressed with Collins and wants him to get more playing time.

Blake Nash had 7 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists. Shaun Noriega had just one rebound, going 0 for 1 with just 9 minutes of action. Hugh Robertson had 5 points and 2 rebounds on the night as well.

The Bulls are off to a good start on the season, starting 5-2 and finding offense from a lot of different players. Seeing Nash and Collins playing well in the backcourt is also a great sign as the Bulls prepare for conference play later this season. The Bulls will face a tough test in their next game as they travel to face VCU on Wednesday night at 7:30PM.
