USF MBB Takes on Georgia Southern

Heath and company are back home as they take on Georgia Southern.

The Bulls return home after losing two games on the road to ODU and Penn State. They will now try to get back on the winning track as they take on Georgia Southern (game is at 7PM, St. Pete Times Forum).

Georgia Southern, 1-2, is the underdog in this game, but will come out fighting. The Bulls could be without big man Augustus Gilchrist (shoulder) so the front line for the Bulls will be thin. Let's see who GS brings to the court.

GS is led by sophomore guard Eric Ferguson (6-7 205-pounds). He averages 18.7 points a game and 3.7 rebounds a game. At 6-7, he has a major height advantage over LaVonte Dority and Blake Nash, so it will be interesting to see how this one plays out. Sophomore guard Jelani Hewitt (6-2 185-pounds) is averaging 13.7 points a game and 3.7 rebounds a game, giving them a solid backcourt.

Senior guard Ben Drayton (5-10 178-pounds) is averaging 13 points a game, 2.3 rebounds a game, and has 13 assists on the season, getting the offense going. Senior guard Willie Powers (6-2 197-pounds) is averaging 11.3 points a game, 4 rebounds a game, and leads the team with 16 assists. Junior forward Camero Baskerville (6-7 226-pounds) is averaging 2.7 points a game and 4 rebounds a game. He will be battling inside with Anderson during the game. Sophomore forward Marvin Baynham (6-6 217-pounds) is averaging 4 points and 4 rebounds a game.

GS likes to use 4 guards on the floor, so the Bulls will have to match their speed. They can score quickly, but are not sound on defense. USF has the size advantage in the paint, even without Gilchrist, so Anderson and Rudd can dominate the boards.

Also look for guard Anthony Collins to make his debut in this game after missing the first 5 games with a hamstring and illness. If he can give the Bulls solid minutes, it will free up Nash and take pressure off of Noriega. Go BULLS!

Look for Rudd to bounce back in this game.
