USF Volleyball to Take on FAMU for Season Closer

The Bulls missed the Big East tournament after going 7-7 in conference play and dropping the tie breaker to Pitt (they are 11-16 overall). Despite missing the tournament, the ladies had a strong year with a young team that is only getting better.

Valerie El Houssine destroyed everyone in her freshman season, being named Big East 2nd Team. J'beria Davis had 238 kills and 111 digs on the season. Janice Rivera had 50 assists and led the team with 423 digs. Shelbie Dailey had 835 assists to lead the way as well, so the team had a great year and can end on a high note as they welcome FAMU to the Rec Center for the final game of the season.

The Rattlers, 13-13 (9-1) were ousted in the third round of the MEAC Conference. They are just 5-6 away from home this season, so this will be a tough game for them, but expect a hard fought match (game starts at 1PM).

The Rattlers are led by outside-hitter Maria Ceccarelli (6-1). She has 329 kills, 25 service aces, and 149 digs on the season. Sophomore outside-hitter/middle-blocker Katherine Huanec (6-1) has 263 kills and 75 digs on the season. Junior setter Marija Jovanovic (6-2) has 222 kills, 19 service aces, and 114 digs on the season (balanced front line for the ladies here).

Sophomore setter Diana Gonzales (5-9) has 50 kills, 862 assists, and 131 digs on the season. Junior Karol Marquez (5-6) has 425 digs and 32 assists, anchoring the center of the court. Junior middle-blocker Pamela Barrera (6-1) has 143 kills, 19 service aces, and 57 digs on the season as well to round out there top hitters.

The Bulls really need to win this game. Not only to improve the overall season record, but to cap it off with a win. They worked hard all season to get this far and it would be great to see their efforts come together at the end to get a late season win and something to build on as they reload and look forward to 2012. Go get'em ladies!
