USF MBB hits the road to take on Southern Miss

The 7-5 Bulls, fresh off their win over Cleveland State on Monday night, hit the road to take on Southern Mississippi (9-2) in the last non-conference game before the start of Big East play next week (face UCONN on the 28th).

Southern Miss enters the night with a 9-2 record after they beat Arizona State on Monday on a 3-point shot as time expired.  The Golden Eagles beat USF last year 53 to 60, in that game, Poland had 12 points and Gilchrist had 8 to lead USF.  The Bulls will need more scoring than that if they want to come away with a strong road win (game starts at 8pm).

The Eagles are led by junior guard LaShay Page (6-2 190-pounds) who is averaging 14.7 points a game, 2.3 rebounds a game, and 3.7 assists per game.  Senior guard Angelo Johnson (6-0 185-pounds) is averaging 12.6 points a game and 3.8 rebounds a game (experienced backcourt for the Eagles in this game, will make it interesting with Noriega and Collins facing them).

Senior guard Maurice Bold (6-10 200-pounds, what guard is 6-10) is averaging 11.9 points per game and 6.5 rebounds per game.  They list him at guard, but he will play on the wing and in the paint.  Senior forward Toyne Pelham (6-6 225-pounds) is averaging 7.7 points per game and 5.7 rebounds per game.  Junior guard Rashard McGill (6-5 205-pounds) is averaging 3.8 points per game and 4.2 rebounds per game.

Sophomore guard Neil Watson (5-11 170-pounds) is a key contributor off the bench.  He is averaging 11.3 points per game, 2.5 rebounds per game, and 3.6 assists per game.  Junior forward Jonathan Mills (6-6 230-pounds) is averaging 7.8 points per game and 5.4 rebounds per game.  Look out for Darnell Dodson who played in his first game for Southern Miss against ASU.  He scored 17 points and added 4 rebounds, including the game winning 3-pointer at the buzzer, so he could be a spark to ignite the Eagles.

This is going to be a very close game.  Southern Miss has a balanced scoring threat, especially in the backcourt.  USF has some size advantage inside, but will once again be dealing with experienced guards against the young guards for the Bulls.  Expect a close game, but hopefully USF is able to lock down on defense and take care of business before Christmas.
