USF Baseball Beats Bethune Cookman 8 to 5

After dropping the home opener 1 to 9 to UNF on Wednesday night, the Bulls had a better time as they opened up a 3-game series with Bethune Cookman, winning game one 8 to 5.

Joey Lovecchio went 5 solid innings, allowing 5 hits, 2 runs, walked 2, and struck out 2 as he collects win number one of his USF career. Andrew Puig, after a few close calls with BC runners on base, worked 2 innings, allowing 2 hits, 1 walk, and struck out 1. Ray Delphey went 2 innings, allowing 1 hit, 1 walk, and struck out 2 as he collects save number 2 (pretty sure Prado will use him as the closer from here on out).

The offense came to life in this game. Alex Mendez went 2 for 5. James Ramsay went 2 for 5 with 2 RBIs and made a few great grabs in center field. Jimmy Falla went 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs. Luis Llerena went 2 for 3 as well.

This was a nice bounce back win for the team after getting rocked in the first home game of 2012. USF is 4-1 to start the season, but they need to continue the strong hitting and do better on the mound and continue to make progress in this series. The Bulls will play BC again at 6PM tonight.
