USF Baseball Heads to Face UCF

The USF Bulls, 4-3, have dropped two straight games to Bethune Cookman and now have to face 19th ranked UCF tonight (game starts at 6:30).  UCF is 5-2 to start the season and have a powerful line up that will give USF a real challenge.

UCF is led senior infielder Travis Shreve (5-10 170-pounds) who is batting .357 with 5 RBIs to start the season.  Junior catcher/outfielder Chris Taladay (6-1 215-pounds) is batting .414 with 4 RBIs to begin the year. Senior outfielder Alex Fredrich (5-11 185-pounds) is batting .320 with 2 RBIs.  Junior infielder DJ Hicks (6-5 250-pounds) is batting .333 with 2 home runs and 8 RBIs to anchor the heart of the batting order.

The UCF pitching staff is solid as well.  Freshman LHP Erick Skoglund (6-7 175-pounds) has made 3 appearances so far, working 6.1 innings, allowing 3 hits, 4 walks, and has struck out 8 batters.  Junior LHP Joe Rogers (6-1 200-pounds) has worked 4.2 innings, allowing 4 hits, striking out 6 and recording one save.

This is going to be a rough game for USF as they hit the road.  The pitching staff has been great so far, but the offense, one of the top concerns for the team, has been off the last two nights and needs to get it rolling if they want to face a top ranked team and come away with an upset win.

  1. The baseball team is going to be fine! So much negativity doesn't help these guys especially if they read all the ignorant articles/comments people write. Big position changes were made this year. These guys are good athletes, they will make the neccessary adjustments. Look at the MLB, they are paid huge dollars and they make errors too!! Imagine that!
