The USF Bulls, coming off of a tough loss on the road at Georgetown, were able to come out strong and pulled away in the second half, beating Pitt 63 to 51. USF shot 56% from the floor and made 80% from the free throw line as they took care of the ball and make their shots and held Pitt in check the entire game (held Ashton Gibbs to just 4 points).
Ron Anderson had 6 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists on the night, hustling all over the court on defense. Augustus Gilchrist had 10 points and 3 rebounds. Victor Rudd had 4 points and 5 rebounds, including another highlight dunk against defenders on a fast break. Hugh Robertson had 18 points and 3 rebounds in a huge effort as he not only led the way in scoring, he also kept Gibbs in check the entire game. Anthony Collins, who sat most of the first half due to turnovers and foul trouble, finished the night with 11 points, 3 rebounds, and 4 assists.
Blake Nash had 2 points and 3 assists, getting extended minutes with Collins in foul trouble. He played well, moving the ball around made great decisions. Jawanza Poland had 7 points and 3 rebounds. Toarlyn Fitzpatrick had 5 points and 4 rebounds as well off the bench.
The Bulls needed this huge win, not only for the conference standings, but also to keep their dreams of an NIT bid alive as well. They will now take on Providence on Saturday afternoon at 4PM.
I guess that what we call revenge against Pitt for their "High Octane Offense" during the football season?
