USF Takes on BCC for Three-Game Series

The USF Bulls, 3-1, take on Bethune Cookman for a 3-game series over the weekend here in Tampa.  The first game begins at 7PM tonight, the game on Saturday is scheduled to start at 6PM, and the two teams will wrap up the series on Sunday at 1PM.  BCC is 2-2 on the year and poses a strong test for USF early in the season.

BCC is led by senior RHP Jairo Acevedo (5-10 195-pounds).  He is hitting .400 on the year with a double and has driven in two runs.  Sophomore outfielder Josh Johnson (5-10 195-pounds) is hitting .313 with one double on the season.  Junior outfielder David Lee (6-4 204-pounds) is hitting .308 on the year with 2 runs driven in. Freshman Brandon Turner (6-2 220-pounds) is hitting .267 with 2 RBIs as well.  BCC is hitting well to start the season, so the USF pitching staff, the strength of the team, will have to do a solid job to shut down their bats over the entire weekend.

The BCC pitching staff is led by junior RHP Rayan Gonzalez (6-4 210-pounds) is 1-0 to start the season after working 7 innings, allowing 3 hits, 1 walk and striking out 6 in his first start on the season.  Jairo Acevedo has appeared in one game, collecting one save after working one inning and striking out two batters.  Junior RHP Jordan Dailey (6-0 215-pounds) is 1-0 with 1 save (3 appearances) with a 5.06 ERA.  He has pitched 5.1 innings, allowing 7 hits, 3 runs, walking 1 and struck out 5 batters, getting a lot of work early in the season.

This is a key early series in the season for the Bulls.  After a strong opening weekend, the Bulls now begin a long stretch of home games for USF.  This is a key chance for the Bulls to get off to a great start on the season.  They will need to take 2 of 3 or sweep in order to get the ball rolling at home this year.
