The Bulls, 7-4, found their offensive game last weekend as they swept Savannah State and racked up 34 runs in just two days. They will face in-state foe Jacksonville for two games as they look to continue their winning ways at home (game slated to start at 7PM).
Jacksonville is 4-6 on the year, coming off of a 13-8 win over FAMU, so the Bulls have a strong chance to continue their strong play at home as they try to pile on the early season wins with the long home stand.
Jacksonville is led by sophomore infielder Taylor Ratliff (6-0 170-pounds) who is batting .268 with one home run and has driven in 8 runs. Senior outfielder Jonathan Murphy (6-1 195-pounds) is batting .216 but has 9 RBIs on the year. Sophomore infielder Chris Moye (5-10 165-pounds) is batting .429 with 1 RBI in limited plate appearances. Senior catcher Matt Frank (6-1 191-pounds) is batting .259 with 2 RBIs. Junior infielder Jake Huxtable (5-11 190-pounds) is batting .294 with 2 RBIs as well.
The pitching rotation is led by freshman right hander Alex McRae (6-3 185-pounds). He is 1-0 on the season (3.57 ERA) while working 17.2 innings, allowing 25 hits, 7 walks, and has struck out 6. Sophomore RHP Chris Anderson (6-4 225-pounds) has worked 15.1 innings, allowing 19 hits, 13 walks, and has struck out 6. Junior LHP Corben Madden (6-0 185-pounds) is 1-0 (worked 6 games) pitching 6.2 innings, allowing 7 hits, 7 walks, and has struck out 5 batters.
The USF bats came to life over the weekend, racking up big run totals and launching a few home runs, something the team has needed and found. With the Dolphin pitching staff, they give up a lot walks and hits, so the USF bats should stay red hot in this two game set and if the pitching can continue its great dominance, they should take these games and continue this nice roll they are on at home.
