USF Softball Faces Central Michigan in a Double Header

The USF Bulls, 13-4 on the season, are back home as they host Central Michigan (3-7) in another key double header game. USF split both double header games over the weekend and will look to sweep Central Michigan, a team that is not playing so well at the start of the year (first game starts at 5PM, second game starts at 7PM).

Central Michigan is led by second baseman/outfielder Raechel Zahrn (5-2) who is batting .400 (2 for 5) in limited at bats this season. Junior outfielder Macy Merchant (5-6) is batting .387. Sophomore outfielder/2nd baseman Brittany Horan (5-1) is batting .267 with 4 steals on the season. Junior utility player Summer Knoop (5-4) is batting .231 with 4 RBIs. Senior infielder Molly Coldren (5-9) is batting .222 with 3 home runs and 8 RBIs. There is not a lot of power in the batting order for Michigan to start this double header, so the USF pitching staff should be able to attack the strike zone and work quickly through their order.

Junior RHP Kara Dornbos (6-0) is 1-3 (3.12 ERA) while working 24.2 innings, allowing 26 hits, 6 walks, and has struck out 14 batters (batting .263 against her). Sophomore RHP Chelsea Sundberg (5-4) is 1-3 (3.12 ERA, seriously their stats are this similar, pretty bizarre) while working 24.2 innings, allowing 26 hits, walking 6 and striking out 15 (.263 batting average against her). The USF bats should be able to get going against their rotation that is struggling a bit to put hitters away.

The Bulls will next play against Penn State and Virginia Tech on Friday beginning at 2PM in another big tournament, but the focus is getting the two wins today.
