USF Softball Takes on UMass

The USF Bulls, 24-5 on the year, and fresh off their upset win over FSU on a walk-off HR, take on UMass for a Monday night game here on campus (game slated to start at 6PM).

UMass enters the game with a 11-8 record, but just threw a no hitter against Florida Gulf Coast, so they have some momentum for this game.  The Bulls will need their pitching to be at the best and for the offense to take off early as well.

UMass is led by junior outfielder Cyndil Matthew (5-1) who is batting .441 with 6 RBIs on the year.  Freshman short stop Quianna Dieaz-Patters (5-7) is hitting .308 with a home run and 13 RBIs.  Junior outfielder Katie Bettencourt (5-4) is batting .304 with a home run and has 11 RBIs.  Sophomore outfielder Lindsey Webster (5-10) is batting .298 with a home run and 14 RBIs to round out a loaded batting order that can do damage from any position in the order.  The pitching staff is anchored by senior RHP Sara Plourde (5-9) who is 10-6 on the year while tossing 101.2 innings, allowing 46 hits, 90 walks, and has struck out 180 batters.

The Bulls are playing at a high level right now and can not afford to let this game get away from them.  After this one, they will face a double header on Wednesday before they start Big East play, so another big win would help keep the momentum going.
