USF Softball Takes on Providence

The USF Bulls, 36-5 (9-0), is in the midst of a 16-game winning streak as they look to continue their impressive play as the Friars come to town for a two-game double header today.  The Friars are 13-21 (4-4) on the season, coming off of a loss to Pitt.  The Friars are a solid team that has some power in their lineup that can challenge the USF pitching staff.  Let's take a closer look at the Friar lineup (the first game is at 1PM and the second game is at 3PM).

The Friars are led by junior outfielder Jessie Bryant (5-7) who is batting .330 with 3 home runs and 18 RBIs on the season.  Senior outfielder Michelle Huber (5-6) is batting .290 with 1 home run, 11 RBIs, and is 6 of 8 in steals this season.  Senior utility player Jen Abrams (5-7) is batting .282 with 1 home run and has 4 RBIs.  Freshman outfielder Shanelle Harrell (5-2) is batting .278 with 6 RBIs.  Freshman 1B (5-10) Kristie Dederick is batting .247 with 5 home runs and has 17 RBIs on the season. The Friars have a solid offensive team that will get players on and pressure the USF pitching staff.  Nevins will have to keep throwing well and keep them off the bases.

The Friar pitching staff is led by senior RHP Alicia Grosso (5-7).  She is 7-11 (3.86 ERA) on the year while working 110.2 innings, allowing 129 hits, 54 walks, and has struck out 57 batters while allowing opponents to hit .287 against her.  Junior RHP Corinne Clauss (5-9) is 5-8 (3.88 ERA) while tossing 83 innings, allowing 101 hits, 22 walks, and has struck out 57 batters while allowing opponents to hit .296 against her. The Friars give up a lot of hits so the offense should be able to get runners on base and keep the runs scoring.

This is another key series for USF as they look to continue their win streak and continue to raise their standing in the Big East conference.
