Who to Watch During the Spring Game

The Bulls are playing the first of their two spring games this Saturday at 6:30PM at Corbett Stadium, located on campus.  The Bulls will be suiting up as they prepare for the 2012 season and will continue to work to make their cases for starting jobs and back-up positions.  As we watch from the stands, there are a few players that you should be watching that are battling for key positions  Here are 5 players we will be watching the most during the game.

Quarterback Matt Floyd - The redshirt freshman quarterback is battling sophomore Bobby Eveld for the back-up position behind B.J. Daniels.  So far, the coaching staff has been impressed with him, but the race is still close and could last all the way to the start of the season.  Floyd could do himself a service by stepping up in the spring game and completing passes and moving the offense, no matter how long he is out there.  It will help him get closer to winning the back-up position (note that Floyd and Eveld won't be wearing the red non-contact jerseys, so they better be ready for the defense coming after them).

Defensive back JaQuez Jenkins - The talented defensive back has been showing his ball skills at safety and cornerback this spring, but has been inconsistent as well (just ask Coach Rick Smith).  Jenkins will need to put together a complete scrimmage game, both staying on the field (has been banged up over his career and through the spring) and continue to show all his skills on the field.  The coaching staff is counting on him and showing out this spring will help secure his position on the depth chart.

Running back Marcus Shaw - The junior running back is one of the reserve backs that is vying for a back-up position behind Demetris Murray.  Shaw has added weight and continues to show his speed on the field. He will need to become a more complete back and begin to separate himself from the other running backs on the roster so he can get the back-up position and help add to the offense this season.

Wide receiver Chris Dunkley - The highly regarded wide receiver has been limited in spring after offseason wrist surgery, but made a splash in the first scrimmage last Friday with the team.  He is fast and could be a huge a game changer this season.  He will have to battle a tough and loaded wide receiver position on the Bulls roster and a lot is expected of the UF transfer.

Defensive tackle Todd Chandler - An interesting pick to watch during the scrimmage.  Chandler, the former 4-star recruit out of Miami, sat out last season as he dealt with academic issues.  He has cleared those up and is in good standing and so far has been showing skill at the pass rusher position.  If he can live up to the hype he had coming out of high school, he could be a big time inside force for the Bulls on the line this season.
