Ronald Pierre could make an impact this season on special teams (Picture: Golden West College Athletics) |
The first is linebacker Ronald Pierre out of Golden West
College of California has joined the team.
The 6-1 235-pound sophomore, older brother and teammate of running back
Michael Pierre, will have two years of eligibility starting this fall and could
make an immediate impact. He finished
third on his team with 63 tackles, 1 sack, and 1 forced fumble, but stood out
in all 3 phases of special teams and boosts that it's a favorite unit to play. This is a great addition for the team after
they lost special teams ace Armando Sanchez in January (graduated). The Bulls could use a solid, veteran player
on special teams and Pierre appears to be the perfect fit for that. Pierre had offers from ECU, New Mexico, and
San Jose State, but playing back home and with his brother won him over.
The other walk-on is tight end Jackson Cannon (6-3
230-pounds) out of Land O'Lakes. Cannon
had an opportunity to play for Appalachian State, but he decided to stay home
and play with his childhood team. Cannon
played both sides of the ball during high school, catching 8 passes in his
senior season, but recorded 89 tackles and 3.5 sacks at defensive end, but will
play offense in college. He can be used
as a tight end or could even move to the H-back position and with seniors Landi,
Shields, and Hawkins leaving after this season, he could move his way up the
depth chart. Look for him to possibly
redshirt this season.
The Bulls also added a few others to the roster. Running back Johnny Sitton is back with the
team after he transferred a year ago to NAIA Shorter University. The 5-7 165-pounder had 3 punt returns for 29
yards 2 years ago for the Bulls and will have to sit out the 2012 season before
being eligible for his final season.
Quarterbacks Trenton Miller, Tommy Eveld, and offensive
lineman Caleb Tucker have also joined the team and will participate with the
team in the pre-season camp. Personally,
watching Trenton Miller on tape, he seems to have a very strong arm, quick
release, and has a nice touch to the ball.
While he may not be able to win the back-up role, he could challenge
Bobby Eveld and should have a solid camp.
Wow this ronald guy is fast can't wait to see him play go bulls!!!
ReplyDeleteHe is a very solid recruit to add to the roster and will surprise a lot of people this season. He may not make a lot of noise on defense, but having an experienced player on special teams and a guy that loves it, is huge.
